Wednesday 12/21/16-NO SCHOOL (RECORDS DAY)

Semester Exam Attendance PolicyStudents need to be in attendance for exams. Students may arrive late to school if they did not have an exam scheduled and may leave after they completed their exam(s) for the day with written permission from their parent/guardian to leave school. Students will not be permitted to leave school during open periods of scheduled exam days. Occasionally, school delays during semester exams may result. When this occurs, exams will start at the beginning of school for the delay schedule, i.e. 2-hour delay – classes begin at 9:30 a.m. Students are requested to bring a lunch for the day because exams will continue until 2:25 p.m. that day and no lunch service will be available. For cancellations, exams will resume the next day in session and extend until exams are completed, i.e. Wednesday exams cancelled; these will be moved to Thursday. Thursday exams will be moved to Friday with record day being held on Monday. When parents have questions about the report card, they should contact the subject teacher or the counselor. Students absent from an exam must provide a medical or court excuse to make up the exam.

Wildcat News UpdateNORTHVIEW STUDENTS HOST DANCE MARATHON, RAISE $13,670 FOR LOCAL CHARITY

226 Sylvania Northview students participated in their third annual dance marathon, titled danceGOLD, on Saturday night. Students raised pledge money and promised to stay on their feet all night long. Throughout the course of the night, participants were divided into four teams, and they competed in a wide variety of events. A line dance highlighted each hour. Team Jive walked away with the trophy, that took into account points earned throughout the night, who raised the most money, and most spirited team. Sophomore Jayden Bolden was crowned Mr. Northview after a rock solid performance of serenading the judges with My Girl. The end result was that the students has a blast, and their efforts yielded a large check that they turned over to the Victory Center, an organization in Sylvania that helps cancer patients deal with their difficult journey. Congratulations to our National Honor Society members and their adviser Mrs. Omey for hosting a wonderful event!

Message from The Victory Center: The next time you lose faith in today's young people....look at this post. These kids at Sylvania Northview High School raised $13,670 this weekend at their DanceGOLD marathon for The Victory Center. Words cannot describe how grateful and humbled we are. These kids are AMAZING!

OUR NEWEST WILDCAT,BRADY THE THERAPY DOG!

We are excited to welcome Brady, Northview’s new therapy dog to our learning community. Research has been telling us for years about the many benefits that a trained therapy dog can bring to a formal educational environment. Brady, a five year old Australian Labradoodle, is assistant principal Chris Fahim’s family dog. Both Brady and Mr. Fahim have gone through extensive training and been certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs for work with people who need comfort as a result of stress, depression, or anxiety. As a result of his breed, Brady is considered one of the most allergy friendly dogs that are currently available. In fact, Mr. Fahim personally has dog allergies, and Brady has not caused any issues for his health. Unlike a service dog, Brady is a therapy dog, which means that students and staff can pet him as they wish. Like any dog, he will attempt to use his charm and lovable nature to get you share treats with him. However, we ask that students, staff, and parents do not feed Brady. Brady will be working primarily with Mr. Fahim, a registered and licensed handler, and our counseling staff on a daily basis. We acknowledge that not everyone loves animals, and some of our students may even fear dogs. Brady, who is extraordinarily friendly and docile, will primarily be contained to a couple spots in the building where students who need or wish to interact with him can do so. Taxpayers can be reassured that the Brady’s addition to our staff will cost our district nothing. If you have concerns regarding allergies or anything else, please contact Mr. Fahim at [email protected] or Mr. Swaggerty at [email protected].
