Your devotion to a Loved One in keeping their memory alive, is helping build the Perpetual Trust Fund. The interest from this fund will be providing the aid and assistance to our Veterans living here now and the secured fund will ensure the future of uncompromised care for our Veterans. The interest from the Trust Fund is providing much needed money to recreation for various outings and events. It also allows for special equipment purchases and a variety of other much needed resources for our Veterans. What could we do to get our Veterans out of that gray winter slump? Give the challenge to our Recreation Therapist and her team to pursue! The answer was to plan a Spring Fling! Families were contacted and Vol- unteers were called upon. Music was reserved and vari- ous booths were set up along with a well planned Easter Egg Hunt. The results of all this planning and effort were exactly what we had hoped for: GREAT WEATHER Lots of family and friends We all got to see the Easter Bunny and had pic- tures taken to prove it! Good food, good music and a good fun was had by all. Special thanks to all the folks who helped us make this day special and gave our Heroes a reason to look forward to the warm days ahead. The planning on behalf of our Recreation team was impressive and the results were heartfelt by all. [email protected] Fred Bird Visit’s MVH-St. Louis Spring Fling In Full Swing

Donations We would like to express our sincere gratitude to those individuals, groups, organizations and companies that have donated to ensure our heroes “live life to the fullest”. Special thanks to those of you who gave their all to fundraise enough mon-ies to purchase the new van. This was priority 1 on our list. The hope is to have the new van on property and util-ized for the winter season. As always when the need arises to assist our Heroes this community shines! This Assistance League is grate-ful to be part of this united effort on behalf of our Veterans.

Trivia Night Was A Big Success We are deeply thankful to Pam Mc Nicholas and her family, V.F.W. Post 3944, the Volun-teers, our sponsors, advertisers, donors and participants. The Trivia Night fundraiser which was held on February 26th, 2011 was a great success. It is amazing what can be ac-complished on behalf of our Vet-erans when you put a bunch of great folks together. The summer will be filled with good times for all our Veterans residing here at the Missouri Vet-erans Home thanks to our com-munity and these committed sup-porters. Your donations do make a difference.

Rec. City Happenings (Megan Martinez Director)

With all of the snow and cold wind the winter months seemed to hang on forever. True we made the best of our time indoors with the help of our faithful vol-unteers. They entertained us in grand fashion with religious ser-

vices, bingo games sponsored by VFW AUX 2866, VFW AUX 10838, poker games, sing-a-longs, and the like. We tried to

stay active physically and men-tally with sittercise groups and trivia challenges. We baked cookies, drank hot chocolate, and watched movies. Mostly though we waited anxiously for spring to arrive. And FINALLY it seemed

to get here, at least in fleeting spurts. In March we had a spe-cial visit from our peers at the

Mexico Missouri Veterans Home. They hosted a bingo game to show their appreciation for the kinship that we have with

one another. We began going out to eat again to places like The Pasta House and Red Lob-ster. We filled out our March Madness brackets and spent days

rooting for our favorite NCAA team to go on to the next round. VFW Post 4105 treated us to a special St. Patrick’s Day lunch of corned beef and cabbage which

was enjoyed by everyone who attended. In anticipation of base-ball season starting once again, the true sign that spring has sprung, we had a visit from the one and only Fredbird! He danced, stole our ball caps, and

St. Louis Veterans’ Home Committee Page 13

shook his tail feathers in the midst of a standing room only crowd of people who were all ea-ger to get their picture taken with St. Louis’ favorite bird.

In April we are looking forward to a visit from Mr. Fainer from the Holocaust Museum as well as getting back to Fairmount Park, visiting our friends at the Mexico Missouri Veterans Home, and the annual Spring Fling.

We can’t wait to get back into the swing of our outdoor activi-ties like visiting the St. Louis

Zoo, fishing, and enjoying our gardens and patios. As always our lives are so enriched by those who volunteer in various ways and we are so very thankful for each and every one of them! Confidential to Arnold, Julie, Jen, and the gang: Thank you so VERY much for everything over the years. My life is richer for having you in it. I am eternally grateful for all that you have done for me.
