Methodist College of UnityPoint Health is preparing the healthcare leaders of tomorrow through a real world learning environ-ment. The baccalaureate degree at Methodist College is composed of 122 credit hours of study. These clinical courses are done in the Peoria community as well as at UnityPoint Health - Methodist Medical Center. Methodist College’s internship course is a criti-cal component of the program. During the internship course students are assigned to a specific unit in UnityPoint Health - Meth-odist where they work one-on-one with a nurse preceptor delivering nursing care to multiple patients. Throughout the semester students gain in-depth knowledge and skills growing in the practice of the true nursing professional. When asked to describe the internship program, Amy Dingerson, a recent graduate of Methodist College, said “I began my internship feeling accomplished if I had a client with one IV pump with primary fluid and a piggyback hanging. I ended this internship performing complete care on clients with 6 IV pumps, some of which had piggybacks, chest tubes, arterial lines, catheters and were on a ventilator. I ended this internship inspired and not counting the days until graduation, but until I would become a registered BSN nurse.”

Methodist College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the nursing program is accredited by National League For Nursing Ac-crediting Commission (NLNAC) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Educa-tion (CCNE).

The faculty and staff at Methodist College strive to create an exciting edu-cational environment that includes real-life learning opportunities. A variety of learning methods are employed including online, simulation and a broad variety of clinical experiences. At Methodist College students have the opportunity to experience a col-legiate lifestyle while being part of a healthcare system. They benefit from the support of other students who are focused on the same goals that they are.

Class sizes are small and combine classroom-based studies with real-world clinical experiences to help prepare students for ca-reers in the healthcare field. How prepared? In 2011, 96.3% of Methodist College graduates found jobs in their field.

The college offers a four-year pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program as well as a second-degree accelerated BSN, RN-BSN, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) and a certificate in Gerontology. For more information, visit method-istcol.edu or call 672-5513.
