Be careful about saying “I’ll miss you”: Although the phrase is great, it may cause your child to feel worried about you when you leave them at school. In-stead try to use phrases like, “ Can’t wait to hear about your day” or “I’ll see you after school”.

After a long relaxing summer, the transition back to school can be tough on children and parents alike.

Below you will find helpful tips to help you and your children overcome those feelings of anxiousness and fear.

Write your child an encouraging note: Surprising your child with a short note either in their lunchbox or backpack can give them something to look forward to.

Check your feelings at the door: If you as a parent are having feelings of nervousness when dropping your child off on the first day, your child will sense this and become nervous as well. Find time to express these feelings separately.

Make your goodbyes quick: Long and drawn out goodbyes can prolong your child’s anxiety about leaving you for the day. A hug, kiss and “have a great day” will work wonders.

I dreamed I stood in a studio And watched two sculptors there, The clay

they used was a young child's mind And they fashioned it with care.

One was a teacher; the tools she used were books and music and art; One

was a parent with a guiding hand and a gentle loving heart.

And when at last their work was done They were proud of what they had

wrought For the things they had worked into the child Could never be sold

or bought.

And each agreed she would have failed if she had worked alone For be-

hind the parent stood the school, and behind the teacher stood the home.
