Are You Lost?

A very zealous soul-winning young preacher recently came upon a farmer working in his field. Being con-cerned about the farmer's soul the preacher asked the man, "Are you laboring in the vineyard of the Lord my good man?" Not even looking at the preacher and continuing his work the farmer replied, "Naw, these are soybeans." "You don't understand," said the preacher. "Are you a Christian?" With the same amount of interest as his previous answer the farmer said, "Nope my name is Jones. You must be lookin for Jim Christian. He lives a mile south of here." The young determined preacher tried again asking the farmer, "Are you lost?" "Naw! I've lived here all my life," answered the farmer. "Are you prepared for the resurrection?" the frustrated preacher asked. This caught the farmer's attention and he asked, "When's it gonna be?" Thinking he had accomplished something the young preacher replied, "It could be today, tomor-row, or the next day." Taking a handkerchief from his back pocket and wiping his brow, the farmer re-marked, "Well, don't mention it to my wife. She don't get out much and she'll wanna go all three days."

The Church of the Covered Dish...Letters To The Pastor

Due to some recent flooding on the farm Leroy had to find an apartment to live in for a little while. He found an apartment and set-tled in. After a week or two, Bubba called to see how he was doing and to see if he liked the apartment.. 'I'm fine, ' Leroy said. 'But there are some really strange folks living in these here apartments. One woman cries all day long, another lies on her floor moaning, and there is a feller next door to me who bangs his head on the wall all the time.' “Well, Leroy,' says Bubba, 'I suggest you don't hang around with folks like that there.' “Oh,' says Leroy, 'I don't, Bubba, I don't. No sir, I just stay inside my apartment all day and night, playing my bagpipes.'

Tax Time

A couple of weeks after hearing a sermon on Psalms 51:2-4 (my sin is ever before me) and Psalm 52:3-4 (lying and deceitful), a man who had recently become a Christian wrote the following letter to the IRS: "I have been unable to sleep, knowing that I have cheated on my income tax. I understated my taxable income last year and have enclosed a check for $1,150. If I still can't sleep, I will send the rest."

How To Pray

A grandfather was walking past his young granddaughter's room one night when he saw her kneeling be-side her bed, with head bowed and hands folded, repeating the alphabet. "What are you doing?" he asked her. She explained, "I'm saying my prayers, but I couldn't think of just what I wanted to say. So I'm just saying all the letters of the alphabet, and God can put them together however he thinks best."

"This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Ps. 118:24

The dew sparkled like hidden diamonds strewn freely across the fields we passed that early sum-mer morning. Sunlight strobed through the branches in brilliant flashes of sweet delight. Multi-tudes of wild flowers raised pretty faces in rolling meadows thankful for the warm caress of sun and breeze. The road winded before us, a promise of good things to come and I rejoiced in the day and my heart was filled with thankful praise to the Father of Lights Who was surely the Author of this perfect morning. "Thank you, Lord for this perfect day," I breathed, " and for the opportunity to share it with the good man you allowed to be my life-long lover. I praise you, Lord! You are so good and glorious and honorable! You fill our lives with delightful things and I praise You Lord with my whole heart!" The Lord whispered into my spirit with a hint of laughter in that still small voice, " Lynn, you would praise Me even if it was raining!" I laughed out loud and my husband shot me a look of startled enquiry. I just smiled and shook my head and his attention went back to the road ahead. It was true! I do love rainy days. I love the sound of the steady drum upon my roof and the gurgling cadence as it rushes from the eaves. A rainy day affords a peaceful joy that can’t be duplicated on brighter days and if by chance the sun peeks through that curtain of rain, my umbrella may be the first one you see on my street as I hurry to glimpse the majesty of God’s bow of promise brilliantly displayed against the receding clouds. Yes, I would praise Him even if it was raining! This thought led to more... I thought of the beauty of a feathery light snow drifting from a slate-gray wintery sky and the feel of it later, crunching under my booted feet. I thought of the crispness of a breeze against my sweatered form on an autumn day filled with the fiery reds , golds and rich browns of the season of harvest. I thought of the near-bareness of the November trees as they stretch their branches mightily across a laden sky and I realized.... There are oppor-tunities of praise hidden in sacred moments of every single day, we can mine them like a man mines gold from the deepness of the earth. Even our saddest times can have bright twinkles of sincere praises when we allow our minds to dwell on the goodness of the One who called us to live in His light. Yes, every day is truly a day the Lord has made... let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Birds Of A Feather

Have you ever heard anyone say, "Birds of a feather flock together"? Have you ever stopped and really asked yourself what it means? One spring a great many crows began to pull up a farmer's young corn.

The farmer loaded his shotgun and went out to frighten them away. Bang! The farmer fired at the crows, and hurried out into the field to see how many he had hit. To his surprise he found that, besides killing

three crows, he had wounded Polly, his pet parrot! You can imagine how excited his children were when he came home with Polly in his hands. "O Daddy," they cried, "who was so cruel as to hurt poor Polly!

Where was she?" The farmer explained to his children that Polly had evidently seen the crows in the field and had left the house (she was allowed out of her cage a great deal of the time) and had gone to join the other birds. She had been among the crows when the farmer fired on them. "You see, Polly was keeping

bad company, children," the man said. "And bad company is always dangerous.

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Proverbs 4:14

"Jezebel" by Teddi Neevel

And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him (King Ahab of Israel) to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal,

and worshipped him. 1 Kings 16:31

Jezebel was a queen who lived with her husband King Ahab in an ivory house. (1 Kings 22:39) A house that I’m sure we would call a palace. They had eunuchs to serve them and guards to protect them. They had a whole king-dom of people to respect them. They had sons to carry on their family name and to continue carrying the royal line. So what in the world could possibly be Jezebel’s problem? She was a selfish and greedy individual who was more than willing to lie, cheat, steal and kill to get her own way. Surely, none of us have that problem…so why should we study Jezebel? Jezebel is a warning to us today for many reasons…all of them are found in her bad examples. Jezebel chose to worship Baal. While we don’t worship idols in a church or while attending religious retreats Satan is very good at putting idols in our way. Anything or anyone that we allow to come before the Lord in our lives and hearts is in fact an idol to us. The extremes of the things we may place as gods was shown in the news this week. The woman out west whose personal god is alcohol allowed two of her three children to starve to death while she lay in a drunken stupor, her bed littered with empty beer cans. Oh, I know our culture is willing to justify her conduct by calling her drunkenness a sickness or addiction, but sometime in the past she chose to begin drinking and did not choose to stop before it became an addiction. Jezebel actively worshipped idols and practiced witch-craft/sorcery. It would be nice to know that no one we know is involved with witchcraft and sorcery but sadly that is not the case. 50 years ago or more our society began to make witchcraft and the occult a joke. Do you remember the "Topper" series of movies about the friendly ghost that helped solve crimes? What about "Bewitched" that made witchcraft appear to be fun and useful? "I Dream of Genie" came with a bit of glamour, naivete, and laughable spells and goofs. Then we added the cartoon characters like "Casper the Friendly Ghost" and "Scooby-doo" that is often chasing a ghost of some sort. Books have followed by the hundreds that are often written for children but make witchcraft seem fun and harmless. The current children’s books of the "Harry Potter" series are again holding wiz-ardry up as a gift to be prized. There is a new cartoon series that will begin n January on the Disney channel that is about young witches learning to control their powers. There are many other television programs both current and in re-runs that glamorize witchcraft. We could sit back and say it is just make believe but all of these things are still against the teaching of the Bible. When we add to these horoscopes, magic 8 ball, taro cards, we should be able to see the danger to Christian beliefs. I have a granddaughter that attended a spring solstice celebration with her school class to celebrate "mother earth". Since the activity was listed as a field trip into the forest her parents had no idea until after the fact that she would be singing, dancing and chanting to "mother earth"…. It is time that we as Christians WAKE UP and separate ourselves from these things or suffer the same fate as Jezebel did!

Praying For Souls

George Whitefield, the famous English evangelist, prayed, "O Lord, give me souls, or take my soul!" Henry Martin, a missionary, cried as he knelt on India's coral strands, "Here let me burn out for God." David Brainerd, missionary to the North American Indians in the early 18th century, prayed, "Lord, to Thee I dedicate myself, oh accept of me, and let me be Thine forever. Lord, I desire nothing else, I desire nothing more." The last words in his diary written several days before he died were, "Oh come, Lord Jesus, come quickly. Amen." Thomas à Kempis, 1379-1471, prayed, "Give what Thou wilt, and how much Thou wilt, and when Thou wilt. Set me where Thou wilt and deal with me in all things as Thou wilt." Dwight L. Moody implored, "Use me then, my Savior, for whatever purpose and in whatever way Thou mayest require. Here is my poor heart, an empty vessel, fill it with Thy grace." Martin Luther prayed: "Do Thou, my God, stand by me against all the world's wisdom and reason. Oh, do it, Thou must do it. Stand by me, Thou true, eternal God!" "Praying Hyde," a missionary in India, pleaded, "Father, give me these souls, or I die." Mrs. Comstock, a missionary in India, uttered this prayer of parting when she sent her children home: "Lord Jesus, I do this for Thee." Moses when praying for Israel prayed, “Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.” Exodus 32:32

2 Kings 2: 9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away. And El-isha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy

spirit be upon me.

Elijahs life had influenced Elisha. Elisha had seen the spirit and power of God upon Elijah. He desired to receive a double portion of the same spirit. If someone looked at us, would they want a double portion of our spirit? What kind of person would they be? Would they be full of faith ready to listen to the voice of the Lord? Or would they receive a spirit of criticism, unbelief, or prayerlessness? Ready to fall for everything and stand for nothing. Would it be the spirit of love for his enemies or hatred and strife? Would it be a spirit of obedience or rebellion? Just what was it that Elisha saw in Elijah, that he not only wanted his spirit BUT double of it? Well it could have been when Elijah prayed for a drought and the heavens were shut up. Later he prayed for rain and it did. He trusted God to sustain him at the brook Cherith, and at the house of a widow... and he did, Elisha saw the faith and courage of Elijah. He saw the power and the anointing of God that Elijah had. And the desire to have it also, in which he did receive. In 1 Tim. 4;12 Paul told Timothy, Be thou an ex-ample of the believers, in word, in conversa-tion, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. In so doing he would be a good influence for the cause of Christ. May we also live now, that when we depart this life others will desire a double portion of the spirit which we have manifested.

Another GospelAnother GospelAnother GospelAnother Gospel

Rev. Billy R Douglas But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:8

This month we continue looking at the false doctrines and teachings of the Catholic church. Once again we will be taking the actual teachings from the Catholic Catechism which is the document laying out the doctrines of this church and comparing them to what the Word of God says.

“Mary Mother of God”? Part 2“Mary Mother of God”? Part 2“Mary Mother of God”? Part 2“Mary Mother of God”? Part 2

The Catholic Catechism teaches the following…”the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heav-enly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be the more fully con-formed to her Son ...In giving birth you kept your virginity... You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death". Again this shows the false teaching that Mary is somehow part of the plan of salvation and that somehow “her prayers” can deliver us. There is not one single scripture in the Word of God that even hints that this would be true. “Queen over all things”? “fully con-formed to her son?” “her prayers will deliver our souls from death?” Absolutely none of these claims can be backed up with the Holy Scriptures...as a matter of fact they go against what the Scriptures teach! Jesus plainly told his disciples with no room for doubt that he is the ONLY WAY...the ONLY TRUTH...and the ONLY LIFE. And as for Mary’s prayers for us….the Bible plainly teaches in Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able (Jesus) also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. None of the writers of the Bible ever spoke of Mary as deity. NONE of them. The Catholic Catechism goes on to teach "... Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us gifts of eter-nal salvation. ... Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix." None of this is Biblical. Not only does the Catholic Catechism teach that “Mary prays for us” BUT that we should also pray to Mary..."The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship." The Church rightly honours "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. ..." The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an "epitome of the whole Gospel," express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.” Once again there is no proof of this to be found in the Word of God. To teach that Mary is the “mother of God” and that prayers should be made to her while counting the beads of a Rosary is completely unbiblical. The Bible teaches from beginning to end that God the Father sent his Son Jesus to be the ultimate sacri-

fice and the ONLY WAY to Heaven. Jesus is... the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of

the world. John 1:29. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life: John 14:6. Jesus is the one me-

diator between God and men...1 Timothy 2:5. Jesus is the only name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12. Mary was indeed blessed and highly favoured to be the vessel chosen to birth our Saviour. We are grateful for her obedience and sacrifice...that be-ing said, Mary herself would have went to hell had it not been for the shed blood of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. The Bible does not teach that she is deity or has any power to answer prayer or to some-how save a sinner. For a religion or a church to teach such a thing is heresy and certainly NOT the Gospel of the Bible. Next month we will continue our series and take an even deeper look at the false teachings of the Catholic Church. In the upcoming articles we will be looking at their teaching on sal-vation through the church, baptism and works. Purgatory, hell, prayers for the dead and more. It is our prayer that this series will be enlightening and helpful to you. Until next time may the LORD keep you is our prayer

Seeking The Lord Daily

A Bible teacher was teaching a group of students about the miracle of the manna when Israel was on the way from Egypt to the Promised Land. One of the students asked, "Why didn't the Lord God furnish enough manna for Israel at one time to last the entire year?" The teacher said, "I will answer you with a parable. Once there was a rich man who had a son to whom he promised an annual allowance. Every year on the same day, he would give his son the entire amount. After a while, it happened that the only time the father saw his son was on the day of the year when he was to receive his allowance. So the father changed his plan and only gave the son enough for the day. Then the next day the son would re-turn for the allowance for the day. From then on, the father saw his son every day." This is the way God dealt with Israel. It is the way God deals with us. Give us day by day our daily bread. Luke 11:3

SALVATION CORNER

We have set aside this corner of THE TRUMPET to show God’s Plan of Salvation. If you are unsure where you will go when you die, please listen to what God has said in His Word:

FIRST . . . GOD LOVES YOU!

“For God so loved the world that he gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have Ev-erlasting Life” Jn. 3:16

SECOND . . . MAN IS A SINNER, AND SIN HAS SEPARATED HIM FROM GOD!

“For there is not a just man upon Earth, that doeth good and sin-neth not” Eccl. 7:20.

“For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God” Rom. 3:23.

THIRD . . . JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY REMEDY FOR SIN!

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the un-just, that He might bring us to God . . .” I Pet. 3:18.

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” Acts 4:12

FOURTH . . . YOU MUST RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOUR.

Jesus calls this experience the “new birth.” He told Nicodemus: “. . . Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God” Jn. 3:3.

We invite you now to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your per-sonal Saviour. “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name” Jn. 1:12.

Pray this prayer and mean it with all of your heart:

Dear Lord Jesus, I now realize that I am a sinner. I accept the fact that You died for me on the rugged Cross of Calvary. I now open my heart’s door and receive You as Saviour and Lord of my life. Please take Full control of me and help me to be the kind of Christian You want me to be. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer in all sincerity, you are now a Child of God. So that we might rejoice with you, we invite you to fill in the information below and mail it to the address on the back of this newsletter.

His Blood Will Speak For Me

“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath

through him." Romans 5:9

PRAISE THE LORD! I want to share some thoughts with you. They may not mean much to the young people, but to us that are getting older, it's reality. I am speaking of thoughts that cross all our minds at some time or another. There is a saying, "We are either on the morn-ing side of the mountain or the twilight side of the hill. We all have had moments of reflection. In one of those times recently I said, "Lord, years have passed, I don't have physical strength for the task ahead...there have been years I could have done more...loved ones are gone now...Lord how many sinners have crossed my path that I could have told about you?" Suddenly, through my tears I felt the Spirit of the Lord touch me! I raised my hands and began to thank my Savior, Jesus Christ, for His Blood! GLORY TO GOD! My Savior's Pre-cious Blood will speak for me. Not only today, but In That Day! I began to sing, "When I stand before His throne holding nothing of my own, I can rest assure His Precious Blood will speak for me." His Blood is speaking today..."Come drink of the Water of Life freely." Rejoice Child of God! Your name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life! No matter what age you are today, "He will prop every leaning side!"

"In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” Ephesians 1:7
