“YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD PHARMA-CY WITH MODERN TECHNOLOGY” Thank you for subscribing to Gloyer’s Monthly, a newsletter purposed to provide our

customers with the latest news about Gloyer’s Pharmacy and Gifts. For more than

Tomball and the surrounding area. We pride ourselves on providing you with a true

"neighborhood pharmacy" yet employing the latest in modern technology. Our friend-

Serving Your Loved Ones

We have been providing the best quality service to many local nursing home and assisted living facilities, many since they opened their doors. Being a local, small town pharmacy provides us at Gloyer's the flexibility to offer services that many of the larger, corporate pharmacies are not able to offer.

Compounding with a heart Before the mass production of drugs by pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmacists compounded medications to accommodate the individual patient’s needs. At Gloyer’s Pharmacy, we have been striving to meet all of our customers’ needs since 1960.

PHARMACY NEWS

Benefits of Your

Morning Brew Whether we drink it with a

gallon of creamer or the more

traditional “black,” Americans

drink about three cups of cof-

fee every day, and According

to a survey done by the Na-

tional Coffee Association in

2014, 61% of Americans over

the age of 18 drink coffee

every day. This amounts to

over 400 million cups of cof-

fee per day.

Based on these numbers,

it is safe to assume that many

of us would not function well

without our morning cup of

coffee. In the past, doctors

and researchers have warned

us against the negative side

effects of too much caffeine in

coffee, but it may surprise

many of you to learn that a

growing body of research in-

dicates that your morning

brew may have several posi-

tive effects as well.

Researchers have discov-

ered that many coffee-

drinkers, in comparison to

non-drinkers, are less likely to

have type 2 diabetes, Parkin-

son's disease, and dementia.

There are also fewer cases of

coffee-drinkers having certain

cancers, heart rhythm prob-

lems, and strokes.

Common Questions

We Ask Our Pharma-

cists (Part 2)

Last month, we discussed

some of the most common

questions our pharmacists are

often asked by our customers.

At Gloyer’s Pharmacy, we

strive to meet the needs of

our customers, and want to

be available to deal with any

questions or concerns our

customers may need ad-

dressed. This month, we con-

tinue with a few more of the

most common questions we

receive from our customers.

(4) What are generic drugs?

According to the Food and

Drug Administration (FDA), a

generic drug may be substi-

tuted for a name brand medi-

cation if it is identical--or bioe-

quivalent--in dosage form,

safety, strength, route of ad-

ministration, quality, perfor-

mance characteristics and in-

tended use. The FDA man-

dates that generic medica-

tions must be chemically iden-

tical to the name brand before

the generic can be sold to the

public. For the consumer, the

best thing about generic med-

ications are that they are typi-

cally sold

at a sub-

stantially

discount-

ed price

when

compared

to the

name

brand.

At Gloyer’s Pharmacy, we

like to keep our patients up to

date on recent and upcoming

generic medications. The next

time your fill or refill one of

your medications, remember

to ask about getting a generic

equivalent for your brand

name medication. Check out

http://www.fda.gov/ for a com-

plete list of upcoming generic

medications.

(5) Why is there an expira-

tion date on my prescrip-

tion?

Understanding our medica-

tions often entails more than

just knowing what our medica-

tion is supposed to do or what

it is supposed to look like. The

expiration date ensures that

the drug is safe and effective

during its intended shelf life.

As your medication sits in that

amber vial, it loses potency

over time; this can affect how

well your medication is work-

ing. If you have any questions

regarding the expiration date

or potency of your medica-

tions, please give us a call.

As always at Gloyer’s Phar-

macy, if you have any ques-

tions regarding your medica-

tions, please come by or give

us a call. We are always hap-

py to answer any questions

about your medications you

might have.

It is important to note that

none of the research thus far

has proven that your daily

dose of java will prevent any

of the previously mentioned

conditions. It is also important

to note that researchers do

not conduct studies involving

people drinking coffee versus

people not drinking coffee for

a predetermined amount of

time. Instead, they ask people

about their coffee drinking

habits. Therefore, the people

surveyed may have other ad-

vantages, such as better di-

ets, they exercise more. So

the research is not conclusive

evidence that coffee prevents

any of previously mentioned

conditions, but doctors and

researchers will continue to

examine the effects coffee

has on our bodies. In any

case, the average coffee con-

noisseur needs no excuse to

enjoy his or her morning

brew.
