EDUCATIONField

Rev. Winford Horsley is Spiritual Care Coordinator and Hospital Chaplain at San Leandro Community Hospital“My official title is Spiritual Care Coordinator/Hospital Chaplain. I am an interfaith pastoral caregiver. My primary job function is to serve as an advocate for my patients, their family members and hospital staff in terms of helping them to find clarity regarding religious, end of life, and ethical issues, or just about anything else they chose to talk about.”

David Fowler is at Planting Justice and Transforming Prayer / Prisons“I have the unique privilege of working with Planting Justice, a non-profit in Oakland. PJ transforms the lives of inmates inside San Quentin by teaching advanced horticultural skills, then hires these men the day of their release paying sustainable wages, providing mentoring, care, purpose and direction. This is the only program known in the US with a 0% recidivism rate after 6 years of tracking. I’ll be working with Gavin Raders and Anthony Forrest to create videos and make presentations to churches, law enforcement, civic leaders and faith-based groups to engage them in a program we call the ‘Planting Justice Reentry Project.’ I’m also writing a short book for inmates called The Prayer of Transformation focusing on true stories of lives redeemed and dedicated to serving others.”

Sarah Hughes is starting a ministry with Conscious Leadership and Enneagram Prison Project “For my field ed placement, I am creating a start-up ministry where I will be offering one-on-one coaching and small group experiences in the conscious leadership tradition to people who identify as spiritual leaders (meaning both leaders who identify as spiritual people, and leaders of spiritual and religious communities). My goals include to gain experience and confidence in the coach role and to develop my ability to articulate how my faith and beliefs inform my work as a coach. I am grateful to be mentored by the Rev. Angie Arendt, a United Church of Christ minister who is also an executive leadership coach and certified Enneagram instructor.”

Marie Wojcik is serving at Youth Spirit Artworks“I will be working with a group of homeless youth on a door project. I will be introducing the curriculum I created in my ChangeMaker project based on genocide and holocaust to engage youth in dialogue around genocide in the past and genocide today, such as Black Lives Matter. Students will paint their reactions and responses on full size doors. I will film the students with their doors discussing what they have painted and will share their stories with local congregations.”
