The World Wide Web is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet.
Invented by CERN, an international physics laboratory, in 1989, it has enabled the spread of information over the Internet.
To google someone means to use Google, the search engine, to obtain information about that person on the World Wide Web. Egosurfing consists in googling oneself, in other words searching for one’s name to
see how many hits it gets.
Facebook is a free-access social networking website. It was founded in 2004 by Harvard students for
Harvard students. The story of Facebook is told in a movie entitled The Social Network.
The notion of peer-to-peer became popular with the emergence of file-sharing systems such as Napster, which operated between 1999 and 2001. In such a system, participants share some of their resources and
are therefore providers as well as consumers of resources simultaneously.
