MULTI-UNIT FRANCHISEE SPOTLIGHT

Please tell us a bit about your background? I have been in the restaurant business for 11 years, starting right out of college. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Business Management degree. While in college I managed a Subway restaurant, and after college I got into the Subway Business. I am a Subway franchisee as well as a Pancheros franchisee. I love working in restaurants; it’s all I’ve done my entire life. Being able to serve customers and make them happy is very enjoyable for me.

How long have you been a Pancheros franchisee? A little over a year, we opened our first location in September 2016.

Why did you decide to join the Pancheros brand? I liked the business model of simplicity and fast service with fresh, high-quality products. I wanted to diversify into the growing fast casual restaurant segment, and Pancheros gave me that. This combined with the fact I had enjoyed Pancheros food for years in college made it a great fit.

What type of support do you receive from corporate? Pancheros does quarterly snapshot visits. This is when my Franchise Consultant visits my restaurant and inspects all areas of my operation. I particularly like these. I received them in Subways as well, and they are helpful in getting a different perspective of the strength of operations.

What do you think separates Pancheros from the competition? Quality of products hands down.

What do you enjoy most about being a Pancheros franchisee? I enjoy working in the restaurant. It’s a fun atmosphere and serving the customers is made easy with the simplicity of the menu and ability to provide insanely fast service.

What advice would you give someone who is considering investing in the Pancheros brand? Be ready for a fast-paced restaurant. It’s burritos, it’s fun, and it’s fast!

Where do you see the Pancheros brand going in the future and how do you feel this will benefit you?I feel this brand will continue to grow its units opened. With so many markets available for development, I don’t see how the brand won’t continue to grow. I look forward to seeing us reach over 100 units. Once we do this, it will benefit every franchisee with more brand awareness and more advertising dollars.

Pancheros Mexican Restaurant will Open in Rochester this WeekBy Dunken

“Better Built Burritos” will soon be available in Rochester.

Jeff Kiger from the Post Bulletin reports that Pancheros in Rochester (4107 North US 52.) will open its doors on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Kiger’s article says you should circle May 2nd on you calendar, the chain will be selling $1 burritos from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on that day.

It’ll be funny to see how many people camp out to be the first to eat there. Back in February, dozens camped out to be the first at a coffee shop – although those people had a chance at free coffee for a year. (It’s not clear if the first customer at Pancheros will get anything special.)

Pancheros was founded in 1992 and has close to 70 locations around the country. They make their tortillas on site and serve burritos, tacos, quesadillas, burrito bowls, and salads. Like Chipotle, they promise quality ingredients and fast service.

New Pancheros Mexican Grill Opens In WallingfordThe restaurant celebrated its grand opening this week.By Vincent Salzo

WALLINGFORD, CT — Soon after watching the former Villa Capri banquet facility be demolished, the Mesite family saw their latest restaurant venture open this week in Wallingford.

The new Pancheros Mexican Grill celebrated its grand opening on Tuesday in the new strip plaza located at 893 North Colony Road, the New Haven Register reports.

The Pancheros website boasts that its “Better Built Burritos are in a league of their own. Standing tall as they are proud, tasty as they are sturdy. Standing boldly above their lesser-built burrito peers.”

Luther Turmelle of the Register reports that Robert Mesite, owner of the new Wallingford location, is planning on adding a Pancheros in Milford and at least one other location in Connecticut within the next year or so.

The Mesite family sold the Villa Capri property last year so they could continue to concentrate on running their Sonic of CT franchise restaurants. They opened the state’s first Sonic on the site of the former Yankee Silversmith Inn, which they also owned, in Wallingford.

Taco Tuesday?

Burritos for breakfast?

Why limit yourself?

Pancheros Mexican Grill is expanding its reach in South Jersey, making Taco Friday and burritos for ... oh, I don’t know, dessert? ... even more of an option.

Pancheros in West Berlin opens today. The location will host a grand-opening celebration with $1 burritos on March 22 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Franchisee Jim Kolzow, a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, has owned Pancheros in Voorhees since 2009.

“Many of our regulars at the Voorhees restaurant work in that part of town, but live in West Berlin,” said Kolzow in an email.

“By opening this latest location, we’ll be able to serve our loyal fans closer to their homes, while also building a broader fan base and having greater visibility in a different part of town.”

Pancheros of West Berlin is now open at 115 N. Route 73. Hours are Thursday to Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call (856) 335-4193.

Meanwhile, the restaurant boom in Glassboro attracted a new comer in Katan Patel, who owns the Pancheros in Mount Laurel, which opened in 2008.

Pancheros will open in Glassboro on March 22 and will be

celebrating with $1 burritos on April 5, also from 4 to 6 p.m.

“The Glassboro area has an evolving fast casual market that has yet to offer a dining option specializing in better-built burritos,” Patel said, also in an email.

“By being located a mile outside of Rowan University, our latest Pancheros will cater to the growing student body along with residents in the surrounding community.”

The Glassboro franchise will open at 1058 N Delsea Drive. Hours will be Sundays through Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Thursdays to Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to midnight. Call (856) 956-3467.

Pancheros also has an existing location in Marlton.

Pancheros’ menu includes tacos and burrritos, of course, but also burrito bowls, salads and quesadillas. All items can be customized with choices of marinated grilled steak; slow-roasted, seasoned pork carnitas; chili-tamarind marinated chicken, or season-marinated veggies. Toppings include guacamole, queso or the roasted corn salsa. Tortillas are freshly pressed.

So, now you just have to decide ... Tuesday? Friday? Breakfast? Dessert?

Franchise Mentor: Pancheros Mexican Grill Franchisee Jim Kolzow Celebrates Three Years in Business While He Scouts Locations for His Second Storeby BRIAN BIXLER

Pancheros Mexican Grill Franchisee Jim Kolzow Celebrates Three Years in Business While He Scouts Locations for His Second Store

Celebrating three years as a Pancheros Mexican Grill franchisee this month, Jim Kolzow, an Air Force pilot with no prior experience in the restaurant industry, owns one Pancheros outlet in New Jersey and has signed on to open two more. He has nothing but praise for the Pancheros franchise plan which he says made the whole process “easy.”

Burritos Sent Pilot Flying

If you get Jim Kolzow talking about burritos, his enthusiasm can be contagious. At the very least, the guy is going to make you hungry by talking about the food at Pancheros Mexican Grill, where he is celebrating his third year as a franchisee this month.

So it’s no wonder that the corporate executives at Pancheros often invite potential franchisees to give Kolzow a call to talk about his experiences with the company, just as Franchise Chatter did. And he had a mouthful of good things to say about the chain that distinguishes itself by selling made-to-order “Fresh Mex” food.

“All in all, it’s been a great experience working with them and I look forward to expanding,” Kolzow said of his interaction with the Pancheros corporate team.

A pilot in the Air Force, Kolzow opened his Pancheros unit in Vorhees, N.J., in 2009 as one of the first franchisees in the state. While he checked out competitors such as Moe’s Southwest Grill, Panera Bread, and Baja Fresh Mexican Grill, he knew two things going into the venture: he wanted to be the investor, not an employee; and he wanted to sell burritos.

As a member of the armed forces, he spent time in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Los Angeles, where he became a fan of Chipotle. So, when he returned to Philadelphia, he noticed a void in the market with very few places offering a Tex-Mex menu. Chipotle doesn’t franchise, so he went looking for something similar and that’s when he discovered Pancheros.

“The bottom line is that I love burritos,” he said. “I love Tex-Mex food so to be a part of it is awesome.”

Simplicity Helped Sell Pancheros Concept

The 30-year-old franchisee said Pancheros offered an appealing package. Everything is made fresh so the product is excellent, there are only five main items on the menu which provides simplicity, and the corporate support in becoming a franchisee and setting up a store is outstanding, he said.

He is currently in the process of scouting locations for his second store and will eventually open a third one.
