After extensive research to ﬁnd the right region for growing quality grapes, includ- ing fertile soil conditions and weather, seven entrepreneurs combined their eﬀorts to form Seven Hills Vineyards in Milton Freewater, Oregon. Milton Freewa- ter is located in the north-eastern portion of Oregon along the Columbia River. This 52 hectare site resides just south of Walla Walla, Washington, which has a total of 52 wineries. Three ponds hold 38 million liters each Seven Hills Vineyards, started plotting and subdividing the property into smaller acre plots to sell to other premier wineries. They next constructed an elaborate state of the art control system, for irrigating the entire 52 hectares. There are two main wells that will supply water to three large ponds, which each hold approximately 38 million liters. In each pond, there are pump stations to distribute the water to the entire area for irrigation. The electrical control system for Seven Hills was engineered with the help of Doyle Electric, and the comprehensive integrated pumping system package was engineered by our Danfoss Water distributor Mitchell Lewis and Staver. 260 and 596 kW pumps The two main water supply wells consist of one 250 kW vertical turbine pump and one 630 kW vertical turbine pump. The 250 kW pump can deliver water to the east and middle ponds, while the 630 kW pump can deliver water to all three ponds. Both pumps were supplied with VLT® Aqua Drives. The pond pump stations are all vertical turbine style pumps using vari- ous horsepower. All the pond distribution pumps were supplied with Danfoss drives and soft starters. Turn-key winery service It is Seven Hills Vineyard’s intent, to sell the acreage to premier wineries around the country and provide them turn-key service that includes: planting of crops, maintaining the vineyard, providing the water irrigation system, and harvesting. Buyers are welcome to handle their own cultivation of the acreage if they so desire, and would pay a monthly fee for irrigation services, which are owned by Seven Hills Vineyards.
