    related fraud. On one hand, machine is much

    better in recognising forged currency units, on the

    other, separating personnel from physical cash

    process with all cashiers, makes store closing

    easier and faster.

    Helping hand

    Unlike classical self check out, Scanning Station

    always has an operator on duty. This allows

    customers to still have an interaction with store

    personnel, regarding doubts, advices or

    complaints. The importance of it should not be

    underestimated, especially in non-food or specialty

    retail outlets.

    SPEEDY is part of Vimana's Cash Line Automation

    portfolio. Based on extensive studies of customer

    behaviour and thorough analysis of transaction data

    from various retailers (over 2,000 devices deployed

    in over 100 stores), we created a range of hardware

    devices, dedicated to each part of a check out process:

    Scan, Pay, Pack, Leave. Together, they form one of

    the fastest cash lines available on the market. With

    separated scanning and payment there is a proven

    30% reduction in staff requirement than compared to

    classic tills.

    Based on our research, on a classic till, between 20% and

    50% of a check out process duration store attendant sits

    idle, waiting for the customer to pay. This time is

    effectively lost. The smaller an average basket is,

    the more time is consumed by payment. Speedy is based

    on an idea of splitting check out process into product

    scanning, performed by store attendant on a Scanning

    Station and payment, performed by customer himself in

    a dedicated Payment Station.

    Store attendants with their knowledge of products,

    training in POS application and experience with scanning,

    not only scans products much faster than the customer

    themself (in a classical Self Check Out scenario) but also

    encounters far less problems during the process

    (e.g. hard and soft security tags, incomplete barcodes

    etc). In addition the customer meets a human face and

    gets a helping hand while shopping, which – to many –

    makes it a much more pleasant and comfortable

    shopping experience.

    Scanning process ends with a print of a simplified

    cash slip, containing a QR code with scanning details

    (products and quantities) or a reference number to

    a sales database. Customer then goes to a Payment

    Station and scans QR code in order to recall his shopping

    and amount due and then pays. Depending on specific

    requirements of a retailer, there's wide choice of payment

    methods possible, ranging from credit card to cash to

    vouchers, e-payment or mobile payment.

    Once payment is made (Cash, EFT, eWallet, NFC, Mobile),

    the Payment Station prints the final cash slip and

    customer may leave the store. As an extra security

    measure, final cash slip can have another QR code

    printed on it, which is used to activate security exit gate,

    so retailer is assured payment process has been

    completed and money collected.

    In order to have proper control over a cash line,

    automated with Payment Stations, Vimana offers an

    additional device called Alerting Station. It is the place

    where all warnings and errors can be seen, browsed and

    taken care of. Based on initial settings, Alerting Station

    will provide a proactive overview of all units and their

    condition. Most importantly it will inform in-advance

    about the need to refill certain denominations, empty

    cash boxes or replace paper in a cash slip printer.

    Speedy components can also be installed together with

    self checkouts, convertible self checkouts or any other

    product from Vimana Cash Line Automation portfolio.
