Rest through sleep is a beautiful thing. Health care profession-als tell us that without proper sleep, the body doesn’t function properly. I’m sure you know what it feels like to be cranky after missing the right amount of z-z-z-z’s. After a good night sleep however, it is most appropriate to wake up. People do it every day…sleep and wake up. But what happens when the beauty of sleep fights the next step? Welcome to the new America.

The once beautiful land where God shed His grace on thee, is sound asleep in most sectors of American life. Strangely, many in the Church are snoozing more than those we should be helping. The contributors of the sleeping pills are numerous. Pastors who water down the word or who don’t preach Jesus are the largest contributors of spiritual pharmaceuticals. These heavy doses are turning America’s beauty into ashes.

Politicians are in the same boat with many Preachers. If you didn’t know any better, one would scarcely see the difference between the two. But sleeping people don’t see the differences, much less the similarities because they are asleep; their natural eyes are open while their spiritual eyes are tightly closed.

We should awaken from our sleep and be the beauty we were created to be. Waking up is not hard to do; it’s normal for people who are active. Sleeping the day away, spiritually or practically is

a sign of laziness. Some would say they sleep because of trying to make ends meet and they need the rest. If this is the case, this is not referring to you. However, if the work to make ends meet, fails to meet the objective of Salvation, you too are sleep.

If you’re spiritually awake, help everybody out by paying more attention to the condition of your family, the community and the church. Ask more questions about why Honey Boo-boo gets more attention than Jesus. Connect the dots between statements about Fundamental Transformation and the condition of America. Our position should be aligned with the word of God, assuming of course you are a follower of Jesus.

This great nation’s awakening depends upon the God in you! Let’s rise and shine, the Lord expects it, and our families need it.

After “Bumpy” Start, All-you-Can-eat Starts This Month at Café 4:13

“Ordering three more country fried steaks!” Iva, the lead waitress

and manager at Café 4:13, calls out. Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang. That’s the sound you might hear on any given day at the restaurant. It’s the sound of fresh cubed steak being pounded out by owner and executive chef Fred Mello (pictured left). Dipped in a buttermilk and egg batter, lightly dredged in seasoned flour, and quickly deep fried, covered with

country peppered gravy, the dishes quickly appear in the window, fried green tomatoes, steamed cabbage, fresh collards, and home-made mashed potatoes are some of the day’s vegetable selection.

Six months after it’s opening, Café 4:13 in the Mirror Lake Publix shopping center is striving to keep it “old school”. “That’s just the way we do things here,” explains Fred. “Our first two months were rough, and that’s putting it mildly!! From construction problems to computer and credit card machines not working, I never thought we would get through it. We would like to apologize to everyone who visited us in the beginning and would like to invite you back to give us another try.”

Beginning the weekend of February 15th and 16th, Café 4:13

will begin serving all-you-can-eat specials on Friday and Saturday

night. It will not be a buffet – instead, the server will bring plates of

that evening’s items to your table, and you can keep eating until you

want to stop. Reservations will be accepted, so if you would like to

be sure that you will be seated you can call in advance. Walk-ins will

be accepted on those nights if tables are available.

Trained in New York, Fred came to Georgia 22 years ago to take

the position of Executive Chef at Atlanta Catering Company. He has

40 years in the restaurant and catering industry. Although much of

the menu is “country style”, on any given day you will find other

items, such as chicken francese or lasagna. Everything is fresh –

no microwaves are used, and there are no freezers full of pre-made

food.

Each morning, before it opens at 7am, biscuits are made from

scratch for commuters or local residents looking for an alternative

to the fast food drive-thru. Café 4:13 has a drive-thru for those who

want a hot biscuit sandwich and a cup of coffee before they hop

on the interstate. The restaurant is open until 8pm Monday through

Thursday. Right now it closes at 4pm Friday through Sunday, but

once the all-you-can-eat specials begin it will be open until 8pm on

Friday and Saturday as well.Catering is available for special events. For more information you

How to Get your Golf Game Ready for SpringBy Charlie Moller, Regional Manager with Canongate Golf Clubs.

Flexibility is very important when it comes to playing good golf, as well as protecting yourself from injury. As we get older the im-portant moves in the golf swing become harder to make as we lose flexibility. It becomes more important to stretch and the wintertime is a great time to start or maintain a routine that will get you ready for the spring.

There are a few areas of the body that must remain somewhat flexible to provide a consistent powerful swing. The back, shoul-ders, hip joints and wrists are particularly important. Your back mus-cles must remain strong as they support the core of the body. The core is one of the main power sources of the golf swing.

One of the best exercises for your back is the knee-to-chest ex-ercise. Lie on your back and slowly bring one knee up toward your chest and bring the foot toward the buttocks. Clasp both hands behind the flexed knee and pull toward your chest. Hold the stretch for about 20 seconds or two 10 to 12 second stretches, and relax. Repeat with the other knee. Your shoulders must be flexible to allow for a complete range of motion during the golf swing. Stand upright, cross your right arm over your chest and hold your right elbow with

Canongate Corneryour left hand. Pull your elbow close to your body to stretch your right shoulder. Hold for 10 seconds and then perform the exercise with your left arm.

The other great thing you can do is to swing a weighted club all winter. This will keep your back, shoulders, wrists and hips loose and also keep you stronger to support your swing and increase flex-ibility and club head speed. It will also keep your swing in rhythm as you will have to swing slowly to keep the momentum going.

Try some of these exercises or start a program with your trainer at the gym to get your game ready for spring. The warm spring weather will be here before we know it and you will want to get started on the right track. You will play better golf and keep yourself healthier as well.

Heirway Christian Academy to Host Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Heirway Christian Academy, an inter-denominational Christian school based in Douglasville, will host its annual Charity Golf Tour-nament on Friday, April 19th at The Frog Golf Club in Villa Rica. Tournament proceeds will benefit the Heirway Christian Academy and will be used to increase the security system at the school and make improvements to the parking lot.

The tournament is designed as a 4-Person Scramble with a shot-gun start beginning at 9am. Donations are tax deductible and the

Christian Community Orchestra

The Christian Community Orchestra is preparing for their

Springsational Concert which will take place on Tuesday, May 7

at 7:30pm at Central Baptist Church. The CCO has begun their

Mill Town Music Hall celebrates 1st year Mill Town Music Hall opened as West Georgia’s largest concert

and entertainment venue a year ago on January 28. During its first year, the venue has been home to quality wholesome entertain-ment covering multiple music genres. Located off I-20 in Bremen (1031 Alabama Avenue), Mill Town Music Hall has most importantly helped revitalize the West Georgia area with a boost in tourism.

Opening Mill Town Music Hall was the culmination of a life-long passion for music for its founder Randall Redding, as well as serve as a way for him to ‘glorify God’ and give back to the community in which he was raised.

According to Bremen Mayor Sharon Sewell, Mill Town Music Hall has helped revitalize the West Georgia community by bringing peo-ple to the area for entertainment that includes dinner and a night in one of the area’s local hotels.

Some milestone achievements during its first year in business include:

new Legislation from the General Assembly Effective March 1, 2013, House Bill 386 removes the sales tax and

the annual ad-valorem tax on newly-purchased vehicles. It replaces these taxes with a new title tax of 6.5% in 2013, 6.75% in 2014, and 7.00% in 2015.Here’s what you need to know:

• If you purchase a vehicle on or after March 1, 2013, you will pay the new title tax to the tag agent in the county in which you register the vehicle. You pay when you apply for the title and register the vehicle.

• The new title tax is not due every year but is due each time the vehicle is sold and titled. It applies to dealer sales as well as sales between individuals.

• The new title tax is based on a percentage (6.5% in 2013) of the fair market value, not the sales price, of the vehicle as determined by the Georgia Department of Revenue.

• You will continue to pay the annual ad valorem tax on vehicle(s) that you currently own.

• If you purchase a vehicle, in Georgia, between January 1, 2012 and March 1, 2013, you may qualify for the new Title Tax Program, but you must exercise your opt-in rights to participate. In order to opt-in, you must visit your County Tag Office between March 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.

Note: vehicles purchased out-of-state are not eligible to opt in. • All other existing annual vehicle registration requirements, includ-

ing annual tag renewal fees, decals and emission tests (if applicable), remain in effect for all vehicle owners.

Additional information may be made available as we approach March 1, 2013.

Avoid Becoming a “Groundhog Day” InvestorGroundhog Day is almost here. For most of its history — which, ac-

cording to some reports, dates back to the first celebration in 1886 or 1887 in Punxsutawney, Pa. — Groundhog Day held little significance for most Americans.

But that changed in 1993 with the release of the movie Groundhog Day, in which a semi-embittered meteorologist, played by Bill Murray, is forced to re-live the same day over and over again. He repeatedly makes poor choices, until he finally learns from his mistakes and is granted the ability to move on with his life. Since the movie came out, the term “Groundhog Day” is often used to refer to a situation in which someone repeats the same mistakes. It’s a phenomenon that happens in many walks of life — including investing.

So, how can you avoid becoming a “Groundhog Day” investor? Here are some suggestions:

Don’t chase after “hot investments”. Many investors make this same mistake over and over — they hear about a “hot” investment from a friend, relative or television commentator, and they buy it. Too often, though, by the time they purchase this investment, it’s already cooling down. Even more importantly, it just might not be suitable for them. So instead of pursuing “hot” choices, pick those investments that are appropriate for your needs, goals and risk tolerance.

Don’t over-analyze short-term price fluctuations. Some inves-tors check their portfolios’ performance every day, or even several times a day. But if you’re constantly evaluating how your investments are doing over short intervals, you may be tempted to make unwise decisions in response to sudden drops or jumps. You can get a good sense of the progress you’re making toward your goals by checking

your portfolio once a month.Don’t let fear and greed drive your choices. “Buy low and sell

high” is the classic piece of investment advice. But too many inves-tors only buy investments when they’re on the rise and sell them when they’re falling. In other words, they’re doing the opposite of “buy low and sell high” — and they’re being driven by fear and greed. Keep these emotions out of your investment strategy, and you’ll help yourself greatly.

Don’t maintain unrealistic expectations. Some people consis-tently put off investing until “later,” figuring they can always catch up by putting away more money during their peak earning years. Don’t make that mistake. To achieve your long-term goals, such as a com-fortable retirement, you need to invest early and keep investing, rather than wait for a time in your life when you may suddenly have more money “freed up” for investment purposes. Also, don’t anticipate that you’ll steadily earn a good rate of return on your investments. Although the financial markets have trended up in the long term, we’ve seen many down markets that have lasted for a year or longer. Factor in these fluctuations when estimating the rate of return you’ll need to achieve your goals. For these types of calculations, you may want to work with an experienced financial professional.

These and other “Groundhog Day”-type investment mistakes can be costly. But you can avoid them if you maintain a solid investment strategy, if you’ve got patience and perseverance — and if you stay focused on the long-term horizon.

to my chagrin, our employee gave me some valuable insight into how we can improve at that and suggested that I share some things she has learned as a family member in this article. So, here goes:

The Responsible Party - It is a good idea to have one person designated to coordinate the care of an elderly person. In the com-munity setting, everyone in the family may help with errands, doctor’s appointments and filling prescriptions, etc., but when a person enters into a rehab and care center, we rely on communication with one per-son. Usually, depending upon the condition of the resident, that is the person designated as the “Responsible Party”, hereafter referred to as “RP”. Upon admission to the rehab and care center, whomever assumes the role of RP should be knowledgeable about medications, conditions, etc. and should be the point person for relaying informa-tion to other family members. It is a good idea to go over any doc-tor’s appointments or upcoming procedures with the rehab and care center upon admission. Ask the center’s staff how they handle making appointments and what the procedure is for making transportation ar-rangements.

The Attending Physician - In the community, there may be mul-tiple physicians involved in the care of the family member. Different physicians treat for different conditions and prescribe medications. In a rehab and care center, we rely on one physician to approve all medications - the attending physician. The attending physician must approve any orders received from other physicians. Sometimes this can cause a delay in getting medications “straightened out” in the care center. It is a good idea to go over the orders for medications, diets, treatments, etc. with the care center staff upon admission to identify and discuss any departures from the home regimen so that they can be reconciled immediately.

Voice Expectations - Once admitted to our center, it is procedure to hold a meeting with the resident and the family to review the rehab and care center’s goals for the stay and to briefly introduce different staff members. What I learned from our employee is that we probably need to add a little bit to that meeting and ask about the goals of the resident and families, as well as their expectations for the stay. That conversation may open the door for some valuable information that will contribute to peace of mind for residents and family members.

Know Who to Talk To - Please do not be hesitant to communicate and ask questions. Sometimes it can be hard to know who to talk to. Ask upon admission whom you should discuss your concerns with, if you have any. Get to know the charge nurses and supervisors so that you will be comfortable asking questions and/or voicing concerns. We in the rehab and care center encourage you to be an advocate for your loved one and will not be offended. If you do not feel you are getting adequate information or attention, ask to speak with the administrator.

special pet. It’s National Dental Awareness Month. Most veteri-nary practices offer a special price for dental cleanings during this month.

During a dental cleaning (sometimes called a prophylaxis), plaque and tartar are removed from a pet’s teeth, and the health of the entire mouth is assessed. A thorough dental cleaning can be accomplished only while the pet is under general anesthesia. Anesthesia keeps your pet free of pain during the dental procedure and allows your veterinarian to fully inspect the teeth and remove tartar from under the gums. Regular inspection of your pet’s mouth is important to catch dental disease in the early stages. Tartar may appear as a brownish-gold buildup on the teeth, close to the gum-line. Redness or bleeding along the gumline may indicate gingivitis. Other signs of dental disease include bad breath, drooling, pawing at the mouth, difficulty chewing, and loose or missing teeth.

Regular teeth brushing for your pet can prolong their healthy life-style, which is a must. Just as in people, daily brushing can help remove food particles from between your pet’s teeth. Human tooth-pastes should be avoided because they contain ingredients that should not be swallowed by your pet. Your dog or cat may like the taste of pet toothpaste, which is available in flavors such as chick-

en, seafood, and malt. It is a proven fact that gum disease in pets will affect their heart, so healthy gums leads to a heathier heart. The next time you visit your groomer make sure to have their teeth brushed and to always ask questions, you can never be too educa-tion on your pets. Happy Heart Month!

Reading the Bible and learning and understanding more about God on a regular basis strengthens my faith. Prayer is the means by which I talk to God and take time to quietly listen to His still, small voice. How are the extrinsic parts of my faith manifested? Serving, giving, loving and caring are some ways my faith is seen externally. God desires us to live out our faith as Christ did. Jesus came to earth to serve, give, love and care. Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it un-der a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” ~ Missy

Cheering at the GameMy oldest grandson is playing basketball.

He really likes it and spends a lot of time work-ing on his game. For me, basketball is a fun sport to watch because it is fast-moving and doesn’t take forever to play. It is also intense. Like all youth sports, the adults can sometimes get carried away in the moment and the atmo-

sphere can get pretty charged. We were at a game the other night where the coach was ejected, the fans were screaming at the refs, and the kids were frazzled. Kinda like the old saying, “I went to a fight and a little league game broke out.”

I coached lots of youth sports and I am ashamed to say I was ejected from a baseball game years ago for arguing with the ump. It was embarrassing. I made a fool of myself in front of the kids and all the folks in the stands. So now, I do my best to be positive and fairly quiet. I do well with the positive part, but being quiet is tough. I have a big voice anyway, and I get excited about my grandkids so sometimes I am louder than I mean to be. Positive and encourag-ing, but loud.

The other night I was encouraging my grandson during his game and apparently was louder than I thought I was. He had told his mom he liked me talking during his games because it helped him. He gives it everything he’s got out there and I think he does great. So I just talk away to him and when he can we make eye contact,

smile and give each other the thumbs up. One of the moms, who goes to our church, turned around and told me and his mom, “He is so tuned in to his grandfather’s voice. He hears everything he says.” I realized then I might have been a little too loud! But it was positive and encouraging.

I think our Heavenly Father is doing the same thing for us. I think He is always encouraging us, cheering us on. Even when we blow it, even when He is correcting us, I think He is positive and encouraging. And I also think He is sometimes loud. I think He will yell above the noise of the crowd, all those distractions that seek to drown out His voice. I think He is doing everything He can to direct us to victory. I want to be more tuned in to His voice, like my grandson is to mine. I want to clearly recognize and hear Him above all others.

That’s my prayer this month. That our ears will hear Him better and our eyes will see Him more. He’s not a long way off. He’s not an occasional attender. He is in the stands every time as we play our game of life. This month He is cheering you and me to victory. Let’s listen for Him!

Do you want to raise kids who have a deep,

real faith? Do you want them to have a heart to follow and serve God? Well, then it doesn’t

Sounds shocking, doesn’t it? Research from the Barna Group, the Search Institute and others show that parents are the number one influencers of their children’s faith. Of course, I don’t mean that church doesn’t matter, but I hope I got your attention.

The Search Institute’s internationally study With Their Own Voices found that 44% of youth indicated that their families were the one’s who helped them the most with their spiritual development, while only 14% chose their church as the biggest influencer. Sadly, 18% stated that no one helps them with their spiritual lives.

Dr. Christian Smith did in-depth research for his book Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers. He con-cluded that “most teenagers and their parents may not realize it, but a lot of research in the sociology of religion suggests that the most important social influence in shaping young people’s religious lives is the religious life modeled and taught to them by their parents.”

So how are we as parents doing? The Search Institute did a nation-wide study, Effective Christian Education. They found that 1 out of 8 kids regularly talk to their mom about faith and only 1 out of 20 have faith conversations with their dad. Considering the fact that we are their number one faith influencers, those statistics aren’t very good and I have to admit I’m curious about the quality of those conversa-tions. It seems that many parents fall into the default questions after church: Did you have fun? What was the lesson? What did you think of the sermon? How was kid’s church / youth group? Asking ques-tions can be helpful, but many kids respond with default one-word answers: Fine. Jesus. OK. The usual. I’m thinking that these default conversations are not life-changing, faith-building moments for our kids.

The Australian national Church Life Survey report Social Influences Upon Faith Development also found that parents are the main faith influencers, but they also looked at how are they making this impact on their kids. 68% of youth were impacted by their parents faith in God, 53% by the way their parents lived out their faith, 30% by how they cared for people in general and 30% by how they cared for their offspring. Only 19% identified their parents’ ability to explain faith as important. In other words, how their faith is lived within the

Among common location sites for receptions, in addition to church reception halls, are hotels, restaurants, private clubs or halls. At most of these, a complete catered food service may be available onsite. In many areas, lawns and gardens are popular choices for receptions, especially during warm to moderate months of the year. Historical sites and antebellum mansions are other choices in many parts of the country. Some unusual backgrounds might be aboard a yacht, ship or boat, or even on the grounds of a winery.

If you are not familiar with the possible location choices, then telephone and ask for a description of what they have to offer in catering options, waiters, waitresses, bartenders, parking valets, etc. If a particular site interests you, then ask for a tour of the facility to determine whether it will accommodate your guests and your needs. Check for electrical outlets for the servers and entertainers and also if there are restrictions on the type and amount of decorations.Questions you will want to ask before settling on a site are:

• What length of time may you use the site?• Will yours be the only party to use the site that day, or will you have

to plan around some other party?• Is there an extra fee if you go beyond your contract time?• Who is the contact person and do you deal exclusively with them?• When will you be able to get in and begin setting up?• Will the site accommodate parking and kitchen needs?• Does the fee include their cleanup services?• Are table and chairs provided?• Is there a dance floor available?• What is the maximum capacity of the site?You should also ask about fire escape facilities and if there is

anything else you should be aware of before you sign a contract.

Types of Receptions The key to the type of reception you decide on will depend largely on the time of day you hold it. For example, an evening reception might necessitate holding a simple buffet meal or even a formal sit-down dinner. In this case, it would usually be held between 6 and 9 p.m. A dinner reception is usually the most expensive type of reception due to the cost of the meal and amount of service required.

Depending on the time of day, other choices include a brunch, a buffet luncheon, a tea or cocktail affair, or even simply light

refreshments, if held in the afternoon. Morning receptions are often a much smaller affair than a dinner reception and may center around a brunch-type menu. The afternoon or early evening buffet is a popular choice among brides since it offers some of the advantages of the formal reception but at a much lower cost because minimal table service is required. The variety of foods served and number of guests accommodated can be determined by the reception budget. Food station buffets are growing in popularity as they offer a different serving area for each type of food provided. Each food station offers a different type of food and can provide guests with different ethnic food alternatives.

Toasts Among other activities to include at the reception may be toasting the bridal couple, throwing the bouquet and garter, and if used, the order of dances. Traditionally, just before the wedding party is served, the best man may propose a toast to the bride. All present, except the bride, should rise and drink the toast. After the toast, the groom responds with thanks. Other members of the wedding party may propose toasts.

Bouquet & Garter Tossing the bride’s bouquet and garter are traditions often used at the close of wedding receptions. This could also be done earlier in the reception when more of the guests are present. If these events are to be photographed, make sure to include them in your list for the photographer.

A popular tradition at most weddings is the receiving line, which normally is set up near the entrance to the reception site. This provides the wedding couple an opportunity to greet each guest and for the guests to meet both sets of parents. Formation of the line includes first the bride’s mother, then the groom’s mother, next the groom’s father, then the newlyweds and the bridal attendants. The bride’s father, by tradition, is considered to be the roving host and directs guests to the receiving line. The father of the groom may join him.

Dances Many wedding receptions include dancing among the guests. In these cases, an order of dances is normally observed. This dictates that the first song should be the newlywed couple’s fa-vorite, and they should be the only ones on the dance floor at that time. Lights may be dimmed to give a more romantic effect. The next dance should be the bride with her father, and the groom with the mother of his bride. This is followed by the bride with the groom’s fa-ther, and the groom with the mother of the groom. After the parents dance, the wedding party, followed by other guests, join the dancing.

A wedding can range from the very formal to the semi-formal, or even a casual, and often, the attire of the bride and groom help dic-tate that. Very likely, the “wedding of your dreams” involves some style of wedding gown, whether it is an elaborate full gown or a crisp white linen suit. Choose all your attire carefully, not only for you and your groom, but your bridesmaids and mother of the bride’s gown as well. Decisions involving wedding clothes is a time consuming process, so start early.

The GownIt is very likely that the main thing that your future husband will remember the most from his wedding day will be the sight of you, coming down the aisle in your wedding gown. It is indeed a major purchase, and one that requires a great deal of thought.

Although traditionally, the white wedding gown was reserved for brides who were marrying for the first time, today white can be worn by anyone. The majority of gowns today are either white or a shade of ivory such as cream or candlelight.

Several things to consider before you start to shop for your wedding gown that could affect your decision are:

• Any restriction that your church may have regarding attire; for example, low-cut gowns, short skirts, etc.

• Consider your figure. You want a gown that compliments you and draws attention to your best features.

• Start your wedding gown search by establishing a budget. Try to be realistic and don’t forget to include any related accessories that might be needed.

Check with the bridal shop before visiting, as many prefer to work on a by-appointment basis. This not only helps them, but is also ben-eficial to you, as they are able to lavish more attention to your needs. Also, ask ahead about the store’s inventory stock and alterations poli-cy. Many stores are catalog-order only and provide only a few select samples for you to try. Other stores may contract out any alterations that need to be done, or charge an arm and a leg to do the services.

It is best to meet with the person who will actually be doing the al-terations before you buy the dress. This will allow the seamstress to get a sense of your style and will help put you at ease. Some shops also

offer a wedding day service for an extra charge. This provides that the seamstress will help you dress on the day of the wedding. She is there-fore on hand in case any last minute emergency alterations come up.

Be sure to take with you any accessories that you will wear with the dress. If you plan to wear your grandmother’s heirloom broach, for example, a beaded gown top might be a bad idea.

Selecting a gown can seem overwhelming when you consider the hundreds of styles to choose from. If this is the first time you have tried on wedding dresses, consider all sorts of styles, you may be surprised at what is most flattering.

If you are small waisted or large hipped, a gown that stops at the waist with a full skirt will show off your figure without revealing your hips. Full figured brides should avoid fabrics that stick to your body and choose a “V” or “U” shaped neckline.

Brides with narrow shoulders may find an above neckline style more comfortable. Also sleeves that gather at the top will provide more cov-erage. Petite brides should shy away from drop-waist dresses and look for a controlled full waist instead. Seams or lace that run lengthwise will give shorter brides a taller appearance.

Veils & HeadpiecesThe veil stands as a symbol of the bride’s passage from being single to being married. While some brides forgo having a headpiece at all, if you do decide to wear one, remember to coordinate it with your dress. For exam-ple, if your dress is short, you veil should be too. It should generally be the same color and style as your gown. Typically an elaborate gown would call for an elaborate headpiece.

Headpiece options range from delicate flowers or a simple piece of lace, to a sheer illusion fabric or even a circlet of pearls. It is important to also select your headpiece according to the shape of your head, your facial features and hairstyle.

When trying on dresses, remember to try veils on at the same time so you will know how the two will look together. Also, try your veil with the hairstyle you plan to wear on the day of your wedding. A veil shouldn’t completely cover the face.

Practice walking in your veil and try to get used to the way that it feels. On the day of the wedding, be sure to bring clips to secure the piece in place. Think of how embarrassing it would be for your head-piece to fall off as you walked down the aisle!

cocktail gathering to a five course sit-down meal for 300, a caterer can make or break the event. Therefore, it is important to select the caterer very carefully.

The first step in booking a caterer is to ask friends and family for suggestions. A recent bride or professional consultant may be able to recommend someone. Next, ask the caterer for his or her credentials. A quality caterer should be able to produce on demand a list of clients who have been pleased with their work. You should only hire a state-licensed caterer who has met all local health-department standards and carries the necessary liability insurance.

Go over menu options with your caterer. Ask about house specialties and foods for those with dietary concerns. Most caterers will provide clients with samples of their work.

Get a list of everything included in the services. Does this include

quantities or bar fees? Ask about a security deposit and sales tax too.

As a rule, you will want to avoid any caterer who asks for more than a

50% deposit up front. Some caterers charge a flat rate per head, while

others charge separately for each item including overtime. For this

reason, you will need to request everything in writing. Many caterers

provide their own linens and service utensils. If they do not provide

these, they might work closely with a supplier who does. Regardless,

you will want to ask before supplying them yourself.

When the big day arrives, you should insist that someone of

authority from the catering service be on hand to insure that things

run smoothly. You may also ask that the staff increase or decrease the

services based on your guests’ needs.

Ultimately, you should let the attitude of the caterer dictate whether

or not you hire his services. A caterer who appears to be over rushed,

patronizing or oblivious to your needs is not someone that you want

involved in your event.

BakerNo wedding is complete without a wedding cake. A symbol of a

couple’s fertility and abundance, the cake has played a part in weddings since ancient times. It is also perhaps the one aspect

of the reception that guests look forward to the most. For this reason,

it is important that you shop carefully for your baker.

Begin your quest for a baker at least four months before your wedding. Flip through bridal magazines, attend different weddings and visit area bakeries to get a feel for the types of cakes available. A traditional wedding cake consists of three tiers and is made of white cake with frosted butter cream icing. However, more contemporary brides are choosing cakes made of chocolate, lemon, carrot, bananas and raspberry. You can also combine flavors such as chocolate cake with fresh raspberries, yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling or hazelnut cake with pistachio meringues. All can be frosted with the traditional white butter cream frosting.

Although the type of ceremony you choose is largely up to you, couples usually try to plan around religious guidelines. Most couples seem to prefer to be married by a clergy

person, but if there is no religious affiliation of the couple, then a chaplain, judge or some other qualified person may be used. The choice of most couples is somewhere between the traditional

ceremony and an ultra-contemporary ritual. Other than obtaining the marriage license and a licensed clergyman or officiant, there are probably few legal aspects to fulfill.

In almost any type of ceremony, however, the site, music, lighting and decorations all play a special role in creating a romantic and memorable mood. Planning ahead, delegating responsibility to others and taking care of details

in the right time frame will be most helpful in bringing about a relaxed and joyful ceremony.Several common elements go into planning a very formal wedding ceremony, including the bridal gown, several attendants,

engraved invitations, a formal wedding portrait, floral displays and a large reception dinner, either seated or buffet. In this case, the wedding attire would be very formal. The bride would usually wear a formal gown with a cathedral train, and the groom’s formalwear would include either a cutaway cost for daytime or full dress tails for evening, with a white pique shirt, vest and bow tie. Included in the formal ceremony would likely be four to twelve attendants, one or two flower girls, a ring bearer, two pages and at least one usher for every 50 guests. Obviously, a very formal wedding would be the most expensive type ceremony.

A formal wedding ceremony would include many of the same details as the very formal, but usually on a smaller scale. In this type ceremony, the bride and bridesmaids might be attired much as for a formal ceremony, but the groom and his attendants would usually wear less formal attire, such as peak lapel or notch lapel tuxedos. The most popular style is the formal wedding.

Many brides and grooms choose a semi-formal wedding, which gives more leeway in almost every aspect of choices. Often the ceremony and reception are held at the same location for semi-formal weddings. Invitations need not be the engraved type, and response cards are not usually sent for semi-formal events. Fewer attendants are enlisted for both the bride and groom, and there is a wider range of choices in almost every aspect of the semi-formal wedding. The cost of semi-formal weddings usually is less than the very formal or formal, but it may not be much of a difference.

Informal weddings, which are quite popular among many age groups today, are usually the choice for second marriages. Less formal attire is in order, and for the bride may even involve an ankle-length dress or suit in white or pastel. For the groom, a black tuxedo, a suit or even a sport coat and tie would be proper. Invitations may be engraved or as simple as a handwritten note. The site for the informal ceremony could be almost anywhere, although many couples still choose a religious location. The number of guests can range from a few close relatives and friends to a larger crowd. Informal weddings are usually the least expensive and can be planned in a much shorter time than any other type.

When meeting with your clergyman of officiant, check to see if there are any restrictions against such things as secular music, throwing rice or birdseed, use of candles and any unusual decorations. Knowing ahead of time which regulations must be abided by can save a lot of stress and hassle. For instance, many churches no longer permit the throwing of rice, which was used for years and years, because it kills birds if they eat it. However the throwing of birdseed is commonly accepted.

Music is an important aspect of the wedding ceremony and sets the mood for guests and relaxes the wedding party. As soon as you have chosen a wedding date and a site, begin to plan for your music. Prelude music is normally played while guests are being seated. If photographs are taken prior to the ceremony, many couples prefer to begin seating guests about a half hour prior to the beginning of the wedding. A processional march is the usual choice to introduce the wedding party, with a finale played as the bride and her father or escort make their entrance and proceed to the altar.

There are many suitable types of music, ranging from piano and organ to harp, violin, or even a string quartet. Many brides like to incorporate vocal selections by one or more soloists. Some churches may require that you use hymnals that could be appropriate.

In almost any location for a wedding some decorations such as candles, flowers and greenery would be in order to designate the altar. Most brides like the closeness and romanticism that candles and greenery add to a ceremony. In most areas, rental stores exist where such things as candles, candle holders and candelabrum may be chose for a reasonable fee. Most florists offer a complete wedding line of flowers and are glad to confer with you on your preferences along with seasonal and hard to find flowers. It may be wise to call ahead for a consulting appointment.

your clergyman or officiate(s). As you start to think about where you will be married, the date, and the type of ceremony you want, a place to begin would be to set up an appointment and talk with the person you want to perform your wedding. In situations where the bride and groom have deep religious backgrounds, they will likely want to have the clergyman from their place of worship officiate. He or she can advise you on any ideas or restrictions that may apply. Also, if neither the bride nor groom already knows the clergyman, it will be a good chance to meet and get acquainted, so that the wedding ceremony will be more relaxed.

If you plan to have a civil ceremony, not at a church or house of worship, then you will need to contact the town hall or municipal courthouse for judges or justices of the peace. In some small towns, couples have their mayor perform the ceremony. Chaplains at colleges have been called upon by university students to conduct their wedding ceremonies.

Most ministers and clergymen require at least one pre-marital counseling session with the bride and groom before they conduct the

ceremony. In these sessions, the clergyman discusses the commitment that marriage means, and how it is a time of blending and learning, growing, compromising and understanding. They emphasize that a positive effort must be put forth by the bride and groom towards being considerate, thoughtful, respectful, understanding and patient.

During the engagement, if problems have arisen between the couple, then a clergyman could help isolate the problems and teach the couple techniques to overcome them. Often couples learn through counseling more about each other’s personality and the kind of support the other needs.

There are other things which the couple will need to discuss with the clergyman who will perform the ceremony, such as what type of ceremony they want, and any special things they want to include in their vows. Many couples wish to write their own vows, and in this case, the clergyman would certainly want to be knowledgeable of what they want to include. They will also want to know your plans for music and the reception, particularly if it is to be held at the church as well.

Many couples prefer alternatives to the typical church ceremony. For this reason, wedding chapels are becoming increasingly popular around the country. Such locations allow a natural cozy setting while promoting romance.

Many patients ask why vein specialists prescribe “compression

therapy” after leg vein treatment. “Compression therapy” refers to

the wearing of compression hose to support veins and increase

circulation. Providing extra support to the post-therapy leg leads

to better results from treatment. Compression is rated in “mmHg”

which is a unit of measure equal to the amount of fluid pressure one

millimeter (mm) deep in mercury (Hg) at zero degrees centigrade.

Normally, the action of walking makes the muscles in your legs

contract, and this action squeezes the veins and forces blood to

travel against gravity. Veins return blood from the legs back to the

heart, and one-way valves in the veins prevent blood from travel-

ing in the opposite direction. Varicose veins have poorly functioning

valves, which causes blood to back up and enlarge the veins. While

they are often unsightly, varicose veins can also cause pain, burn-

ing, aching, and other symptoms.

Many factors contribute to the potential for varicose veins, includ-

ing age, gender, heredity, obesity, prolonged standing, and physical

trauma. In addition, pregnancy can be a major contributing factor.

Compression hose are available in many different forms: knee-

high socks, panty-hose, thigh-high hose, and single-leg hose.

They are available in many different grades of pressure. Compres-

sion hose can also be custom-made for those patients requiring a

special fit. Some hose are available over-the-counter, but higher-

level pressure hose are by prescription only. Applying pressure after

sclerotherapy or EVLT through compression hose is recommended

by vein specialists. Ideally, hose should be worn 24 hours a day for

periods ranging from a minimum of two to three days up to a week

following treatment.

Olympic Champion Triple Jumper Chris-tian Taylor Partners With Wellstar

Jazzercise Offers new Classes to Accom-modate Participants

The Jazzercise dance-fitness classes which opened in the Villa

Rica area in August has now expanded its class schedule to in-

clude three new classes. Jazzercise instructor, Tonya Wallace, has

added the classes to accommodate new participants and to pro-

vide current participants with a greater choice of convenient class

times.

The new classes will take place at Monday at 6:50pm, Friday at

4:30pm, and Saturday at 9:40am.

“I’m excited about the growth of Jazzercise locally,” said Wal-

lace. “Jazzercise offers a unique blend of fitness and jazz dance

that Villa Rica residents have discovered is a lot of fun. The new

classes will just make it easier for participants to enjoy a workout

where and when it’s convenient for them.”

The 60-minute Jazzercise class includes a warm-up, high-ener-

gy aerobic routines, muscle-toning and cool-down stretch segment.

Jazzercise combines elements of dance, resistance training, Pi-

lates, kick-boxing and more to create programs for people of every

age and fitness level. Alternative formats include Jazzercise Lite,

Jazzercise Personal Touch and Junior Jazzercise.
