INTRODUCTION NEED OF PLC SYSTEM DESCRIPTION COMPONENTS OF PLC APPLICATION ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE CONCLUSION
Introduction
PLCC in modern electrical power system is mainly for telemetry and telecontrol.
Main data transmission system for telemetry and telecontrol are:
1)Use of telephone lines
2)Use of separate cables
3)power line carrier communication
4)Radio wave micro wave channel
Need of plc
Carrier protection relaying of transmission line Station to station communication between operating
personnel Carrier telemetring, electrical quantities that are
telemetered are kW, kVA, kVAR, Voltage and Power factor etc.
It provides services related to power distribution such as load control, meter reading, tariff control, remote control and smart homes

Each end of transmission line is provided with identical PLCC equipment consisting of equipment: Transmitters and Receivers Hybrids and Filters Line Tuners Line Traps Power amplifier Coupling capacitors

INTERNET ACCESS
Offers right balance of cost,convinience and speed. It gives high speed internet access to electrical
networks. Lower costs are achieved because the service is
implemented on standard electrical lines and is already connected to almost all residence and business through electrical lines.
It speed would be 1Mbps, 20 times faster then a standard modem connection.
No need for bulky apparatus associated with wireless access
ADVANTAGE
No separate wires are needed for communication purpose,as the power lines themselves carry power as well as communication signals.hence the cost is less.
power lines have appreciably higher mechanical strength compare with ordinary lines.they would normally remain unaffected under the conditions,which might seriously damage telephone lines.
power lines usually provide the shortest route between the power stations. power lines have large cross sectional area resulting in very low resistance per
unit length.consequently carrier signals suffer much less attenuation than when they travel on telephone lines of equal leghths.
power lines are well insulated to provide only negligible leakage between conductors and ground even in adverse weather conditions.
largest spacing between conductors reduces capacitance,which results in smaller attenuation at high frequencies.the large spacing also reduces the cross talk to a considerable extent.
DISADVANTAGE
proper care has to be taken to guard
carrier equipment and persons using them against high voltages and currents on the lines.
noise introduced by power lines is far more than in case of telepgone lines.this is due to the noise generated by discharge across insulators,switching processes.
conclusion
Tests in plc have been carried out in 20 countries in around 1500
residences.the mapping of results has been extremely positive and
forecasts a great demand for the system.
Digital power technology is definitely an exciting alternative to
connect internet via phone and modem. Though this technology is not
commercially available yet, it should be available over other
broadband technologies due to relatively low cost of its local loop.
Moreover, its high speed will provide internet access, local phone, and
long distance service to customers.
