Provides technical leadership for specific functions (e.g., IT Systems architecture, wide area network, database management and telecommunications). Provides supervisory and management support to a project team or work group.
Additionally, managing day to day IT systems operations, processes and IP Phone infrastructure. Bounded with a SLA to maximize system uptime and avoid unplanned shutdown of the critical core systems. The Infrastructure is consisting of 10 Base-T Twisted pair Ethernet using Structured UTP Cat.5 cabling, Cabletron® HUBS using Star topology covering 9 sites linked by Fibre Optic, and FDDI backbone, along with all the necessary Network segmentation and/or bridging design.
Participated in the Design and Implementation of Microsoft® Windows NT 3.51 as the refinery global Network Operating System (NOS). The Network uses TCP/IP and NetBEUI protocols, supports IBM AIX UNIX server connectivity, and IPX/SPX protocol for NOVELL NetWare server connectivity.
Participated in the preparation, installation, and setup of all Refinery NT3.51, NT4.0, and Exchange 4.0 servers.
Supervised the implementation of the corporate and international electronic mailing system at ORC using Microsoft® Exchange Server. The system was integrated with 3 international information providers: REUTERS, PLATT'S oil gram, and Internet Solution Provider GTO. Also supervised the implementation of both Microsoft® Office and Microsoft® Back Office, which are available for all Network users.
Supervised planning, installing, setup, and integrating two Oracle® Workgroup 2000 servers running under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
Supervised the implementation and conducted training for MS Server Management System (SMS). SMS is used by the Refinery Help desk for remote troubleshooting and problem solving of all network servers and client workstations, and used by the system administrator for performing "Electronic Push" of any software upgrades as well as monitoring the network traffic and resolving any bottlenecks.
Trained and assisted users during systems implementation. Maintains a list of equipment networked in the Company for the purposes
of inventory and management of technical resources, along with all equipment under repair or out of service and arranges for short-term replacement of equipment to ensure adequate control of Refinery client and server hardware and software in addition to network equipment such as hubs and UTP cables. Maintain record of serial numbers of all PC's, terminals and peripherals in use in the Company.
Installs both hardware and software client and server components for new end users or on the upgrade of desktop systems used in the Refinery.
Physically installs new systems onto the Company servers identifying linkages and necessary interfaces are catered for adequately. Maintains a current knowledge data linkages and techniques to interface and tune Information Technology Systems.
Trouble shoots on desktop and server products to rectify minor network, hardware or software faults.
Performs housekeeping and backups on Company systems to maintain adequate service levels in the Company.
Participated in planning, implementing and managing MIS Help Desk activities, and developed procedures for enhancing users support.
Played major role in upgrading the company's global IT infrastructure to cover 9 campus-wide sites scattered in an area of 1500m2.
Stays abreast of new software releases to ensure an adequate working knowledge of products to provide users with an adequate installation and support service for the approved Company desktop products.
Maintains a current knowledge of related networking technologies in ordered to support modifications and changes to the Company network for both voice and data which reflect technological advances
Plans and defines the networking structure for the Company in conjunction with MIS Manager.
Defining and catering for new users and additions to the network. Ensures that all service levels from the help desk are maintained. Designs
and implements modifications to the help desk facilities and follows up to validate changes as being appropriate to the user community within the Refinery.
Responsibility is held for modifying, controlling and expanding the networks. Determines work methods from alternative existing methods in accordance with policies and professional standards. Maintain integrity of the networks within the Company.
Undertakes basic network tuning, logging on and logging off of users and general network support. Ensures that adequate day to day security features are in place and operable on the Company network according to the Refinery policies.
Keeps track and monitors the network users addressees, and tunes the network and maintains adequate traffic rates to ensure that a good level of networking service is provided to users of the network
Liaises with outside vendors for the repair and maintenance of exiting server/client equipment.
Follows all statutory fire and safety procedures laid down by the Company.
Develops Omani nationals within areas of competence. Undertakes similar or related duties as required.
