Day 1 Read story (teacher read)Students read togetherAsk questions after reading (be sure to point out el guión largo for diálogo)Read story again by taking turns. Day 2 Read story again as whole class.Ask questionsRead story by taking turns. Ask questions that refer to el ambiente, los personajes and be sure to ask about particular characters speaking. Read again by parts like a Reader’s Theater.Day 3 Read story as a whole group & ask for volunteers to summarize the story.Take turns reading the story as Reader’s Theater (have two or three groups come up and read, turn it into a competition by having the class vote on which group had the best “theater performance”.Have students use the story to fill out the worksheet.Day 4 Read the story as a Reader’s TheaterAsk questionsGo over the answers to the worksheet.Cut out the picture along with the written portion – have students write their name on the back of each block.Day 5Have students mix up their ‘cards’ then swap with someone and each person has to use the pictures with writing to put the story back in order. Before checking their answers read the story again, use the reading of the story to check the order the students placed the cards in. Once everyone has the ‘cards’ back in order have some students retell the story.Have students return the cards to their original owner and then have students cut the words and pictures.Day 6Have students mix up their word cards and photo cards then trade with another student (can’t be the same student from the previous day), students must match the picture to the words and then placing them in the correct order. Read the story Check that the photo cards and word cards match and are in order. Return cards and photos to original owner. Have students pair up to play a game of Memory. Use only one set of words and cards, students will flip cards over to match the words to the writing. At the end of the time, have students take their cards home to continue playing and practicing at home to study.Day 7 & 8Give students a blank comic strip page, students will create a comic with nine squares only, the students will retell the story by creating a comic. Students should not copy the entire story word for word. This activity may take two days.Day 9Test day
