Shipping Industry Sees Potential in The Return of Sails

description

The technology is increased day by day and these technology is still being implemented and tested but the there is very big effect of these technology on the shipping industry. Our company Pacific Tycoon never forgets that reducing fuel costs means reducing fuel consumption, which in turn will benefit the environment. For more details view this Slide Presentation.

  • 1. Shipping Industry Sees Potential in The Return of Sails

2. Page 2 Are large merchant sailing vessels the future of the shipping industry? It is possible. Companies, such as Windship Technology, are already trying to re-invent the wind-powered ship. The entire industry is aware that fuel costs have been increasing and any ideas or technologies that will reduce fuel costs are welcome, especially in this industry so reliant on vast amounts of fuel. A ship carries hundreds of tonnes of fuel each time it leaves port, and reducing that amount, or removing it completely would have an incredibly large impact on the bottom line of many shipping companies. 3. Wind is free and there are several known TR It's no wonder that people are starting to wonder if large sail-based ships can transport good to and from markets such as China and United States. Sails were used for hundreds of years and comeat the fuel cost next to $0. Wind is free and there are several knownTRADEwinds that could easily help push ships up and down, and across oceans if we needed them to. 4. Page 4 Even if ships used wind to propel them only part of the way, a large sail would pay for itself in very few uses. We would need to retrain a generation of sailors, but I suspect they'd be up for the task! Considering the amount of fuel used, the known fact that fuel prices will continue to rise in the future, and that wind andTRADEroutes are already available, this type of technology should not only be welcomed, it should be pushed at every instance by possible by every stakeholder. 5. Page 5 Granted, the technology is still being implemented and tested, but the impacts on the shipping industry could be massive. Not to forget also that reducing fuel costs means reducing fuel consumption, which in turn will benefit the environment. Of course, many of the large shipping companies are also heavilyINVESTEDin the oil industry. It won't be easy, but I suspect that there will be heavy consideration and debate over sail-based container shipping vessels on the high seas, in the next few years. 6. Page 6 All things considered, there is huge potential in harnessing wind, solar and other types of 'free' energy in order to reduce operating costs. But in the end, it is the impact on profits and shipping prices that will play the largest role in establishing sailing ships, back into the global maritime shipping industry. 7.
