Connellsville E-news October I have been reflecting this month on the phrase “Image of God” as it relates to human beings. In this world of death and negativity it is easy to lose sight that each of us are created in the “Image of God.” “So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Gen 1:27) The “Image of God” points to the intrinsic value of human beings. No other creature is created in this image. It points to the fact that we are creative like God who made the heavens and the earth. It also points to the fact that we are relational like God who is one in the community of the three persons of the Trinity. Each one of us formed and created by God and wonderfully made. “For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.” (Psalm 139:13-14) Because we are sinners and live in a sinful fallen world, we often fall short of honoring those made in the “Image of God.” James 3:8-9 reminds of this, “but no one can tame the tongue—a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God.” Sometimes, this goes beyond just words and goes into action that harms those created in the “Image of God.” In hopes of shoring up our striving to be imitators of Jesus Christ and to deepen our efforts to honor all persons made in the “Image of God,” the district is doing a series of trainings on Anti-Racism. Connellsville E-newsOctober

I have been reflecting this month on the phrase “Image of God” as it relates to human beings. In this world of death and negativity it is easy to lose sight that each of us are created in the “Image of God.” “So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Gen 1:27)

The “Image of God” points to the intrinsic value of human beings. No other creature is created in this image. It points to the fact that we are creative like God who made the heavens and the earth. It also points to the fact that we are relational like God who is one in the community of the three persons of the Trinity. Each one of us

formed and created by God and wonderfully made. “For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.” (Psalm 139:13-14)

Because we are sinners and live in a sinful fallen world, we often fall short of honoring those made in the “Image of God.” James 3:8-9 reminds of this, “but no one can tame the tongue—a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God.” Sometimes, this goes beyond just words and goes into action that harms those created in the “Image of God.”

In hopes of shoring up our striving to be imitators of Jesus Christ and to deepen our efforts to honor all persons made in the “Image of God,” the district is doing a series of trainings on Anti-Racism. I want to invite all of you to participate in the Anti-Racism Training at Grace United Methodist Church in Somerset. The training is from 9:00-3:00 on November 6, 2019. Please register at: https://wpa-reg.brtapp.com/ANTIRACISMMEETINGS2019. There is no cost for persons from the Connellsville District, but we need to have a good count to cover lunch preparations.

I look forward to seeing all of you there!

God Bless,

Pastor Bob
