Set against the backdrop of the physician shortage and opioid epidemic in rural America, The Providers follows three "country doctors’" in New Mexico at clinics offering care to all, regardless of ability to pay. As their personal struggles at times reflect those of their patients, the providers work to reach rural Americans who would otherwise be left without healthcare. I started part-time as the producer for WKAR Radio Talking Book. Now I am the full-time producer of WKAR Radio Reading Service and also of day-to-day operations for 90.5 and AM870.
What do you find so enriching about working with Radio Reading Service?
At WKAR Radio Reading Service, we are able to provide daily information to blind and visually-impaired listeners who may not be able to receive that information on their own.

STATION NEWSSusi Elkins Elected to America’s Public Television Stations BoardSusi Elkins, director of broadcasting and general manager of WKAR Public Media at Michigan State University, has been elected to the board of directors of America’s Public Television Stations (APTS). APTS is a nonprofit membership organization that works to ensure a strong and financially sound public television system and help member stations provide essential public services in education, public safety, and civic leadership to the American people.
WKAR TV Takes Home National Award for 2018The 2018 National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) awards were presented to 31 projects from public television stations across the country. The award WKAR TV received was in the category "Community Engagement Based on a Local Initiative" for the Playtime Pad Research Project.
