Problems with Basic Surgical Sucon? ...there is a soluon. Historical Overview For centuries, mechanical sucon has been essenal to the pracce of surgery. In 1907, Dr. Sidney Yankauer invented the Yankauer tube at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. In 1918, Dr. Eugene Poole invented the Poole sucon tube at the New York Hospital. In the same me period, the Andrews-Pynchon (“Baby Yankauer”) was developed for detail sucon and the Frazier for micro-detail sucon. For over 100 years, the Yankauer, Poole, Andrews-Pynchon, Frazier, have defined basic surgical sucon. Metal reusables require extensive cleaning and reprocessing, while plasc disposables do not perform to the standard of metal reusables. Reusables are now known to be uncleanable leading to poor performance and the risk of SSIs, currently a growing concern in naonal health care. 1,4 Vascular Via-Guard Sucon Set Andrews-Pynchon Poole Stainless Steel The Via-Guard Sucon Set combines Yankauer and Poole instruments in a single disposable device that offers unparalleled clog-free performance. • Problems with Basic Surgical Suction? ...there is a solution.

Historical OverviewFor centuries, mechanical suction has been essential to the practice of surgery. In 1907, Dr. Sidney Yankauer invented the Yankauer tube at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. In 1918, Dr. Eugene Poole invented the Poole suction tube at the New York Hospital. In the same time period, the Andrews-Pynchon (“Baby Yankauer”) was developed for detail suction and the Frazier for micro-detail suction. For over 100 years, the Yankauer, Poole, Andrews-Pynchon, Frazier, have defined basic surgical suction. Metal reusables require extensive cleaning and reprocessing, while plastic disposables do not perform to the standard of metal reusables. Reusables are now known to be uncleanable leading to poor performance and the risk of SSIs, currently a growing concern in national health care.1,4

  • ALL “Surgery-Ready” suction tips contained residual blood, bone, tissue or rust.

Poor design makes some tools impossible to clean. Researchers found all 350 surgery-ready suction tips contained blood, bone, tissue or rust, and many were packed with debris.
