Subsea productionThe deeper the water, the farther from shore, the higher the risk. As the subsea environment gets tougher, the costs associated with even the simplest of operations rise exponentially. You need subsea equipment to be robust and reliable in order to protect the environment and your investment. So, although the seabed may be new territory for the equipment, your well is no place for experimentation.

Field-proven technology leadershipGE Oil & Gas has been safely pushing real subsea boundaries for nearly 50 years. Every success has been achieved by gradually evolving field-proven technologies, by planning and designing specifically for unique subsea conditions, and by investing significant resources for stringent testing at every stage of development.

With this approach, we have been designing, installing and maintaining subsea trees and control systems all around the globe since the early 1980s. We pioneered subsea pumping in 1992 at Prezioso, subsea separation and boosting in 1999 at Troll C, and subsea compression in 2006 in the North Sea.

Now, with the most advanced and fully integrated subsea systems on their side, our customers can move confidently into deeper waters and more marginal fields and continually expand the performance envelope. Unique heritage

By working closely with our customers and focusing on long-term potential, we continue to turn subsea obstacles into opportunities.

Systems integration

Fundamental to the success of any subsea development is the ability to ensure that mission-critical components will work together when installed and be reliable for the duration of their service life.

To do this, we fully evaluate the Technology Readiness Level of all the diverse components and put effective mitigation programs in place to keep the project on track. The process must also be reviewed to ensure system and flow assurance capabilities for the expected field life.

It is an immense and intricate puzzle that must be solved before entering the water. Our process begins even before the contract award as part of Front End Engineering and Development (FEED) studies and continues seamlessly throughout execution.

Subsea separation

The VetcoGray portfolio includes Troll C, the world’s first commercially scaled pilot subsea separation and boosting station. Installed in 1999, this module has been in commercial production since 2001 and is one of the building blocks upon which subsequent projects have been based.

Moreofourleading-edgeseparationtechnologiesareusedinthe subsea versions of IEC (In-line Electrostatic Coalescer), Vessel Internal Electrostatic Coalescer (VIEC) and Low Water Content Coalescer (LOWACC). These products enable more efficient and cost-effective oil/water separation, resulting in shorter residence time and more compact separators for deepwater applications. The VIEC is especially effective on high-viscosity fluids and has now been installed on a number of topside applications to reduce weight and solve emulsion problems.

Our designs are all simple, robust and reliable – for long life and unattended operations with means for easy and fast intervention.

Subsea pumping

The first subsea multi-phase pump was installed in 1992 at the Prezioso field in Italy using GE Oil & Gas twin screw technology (NPV 70). This was a world record for subsea multi-phase boosting. It is recognized by GE and our customers that future field developments around the world will require more sophisticated subsea boosting technology to accommodate higher boosting capabilities. These capabilities relate to more differential pressure, larger variations in Gas Volume Fraction, operations with heavier oils and improved sand tolerance.

As a result , we have undertaken an extensive development program focused on increasing the technology's versatility and robustness. The advanced pump will be tested in full scale and submerged conditions with qualification for subsea use in 2010.

Tree systems

VetcoGray tree systems are designed from standard “building block” components to meet the exacting requirements of developments in depths ranging from 100 to 10,000 ft. We have supplied more than 900 subsea tree systems globally and have a significant installed base in every major production basin.

Our portfolio covers all applications from shallow-water, single-well satellites through to major deepwater developments. Products are suitable for low pressure reservoirs requiring artificial stimulation or lift through to high-pressure high-temperature applications. Configurations include simple diver assist shallow water mudline trees(TOM)uptodrill-throughanddeepwaterguidelinelesshorizontaltrees (HT) and vertical or conventional trees.

Our designs accommodate reservoir shut-in conditions of 350ºF and 15,000 psi and, in the other extreme, provide facilities for electrical or hydraulic submersible pumping systems (ESP / HSP), or artificial lift by gas or water. VetcoGray trees are designed to accommodate our

full range of choke products, which can be configured for production, water or gas injection (lift), or chemical injection services.

We also provide customized solutions for specific field requirements, including:• TreeonMudlinefordeploymentfromjackups • Trawl-friendlyprotectionstructures:treedeployed,wellhead deployed or freestanding • Flowbaseforsinglewellordaisychain/minimanifold • Templateapplications • Guidelinelesstreesfordeepwaterapplications

Horizontal treesOur D Series deepwater horizontal trees are deployed guidelineless (funnel down) in water depths up to 10,000 ft usually from a DP semi-submersible drilling rig or drillship. Because the tubing hanger is

installed within the treehead, heavy (tubing retrieval) workover can be achieved without the need to recover the tree system. ROV based flowline and umbilical connections are made directly to the tree assembly so there is no requirement for guidebase or flowbase.

Our S series shallow-water horizontal trees are usually deployed on guidelines in water depths up to 1,640 ft from an anchored semi-submersible drilling rig. Because the tubing hanger is installed within the treehead heavy (tubing retrieval), workover can be achieved without the need to recover the tree system. The system can be supplied with a flowbase if required, however most applications feature flowline and umbilical connections made directly to the tree assembly eliminating this item.

Conventional treesOur D Series deepwater conventional tree system is deployed guideline- less in water depths up to 10,000 ft from a DP semi-submersible drilling rig or drillship. Typically utilizing a tubing spool assembly above the

wellhead so that the tree can be retrieved without disturbing the flowlines. The tubing hanger is installed within the tubing spool which necessitates retrieval of the tree in the event of heavy (tubing retrieval) workover.

The S Series shallow-water 5x2" conventional tree system is usually deployed on guidelines in water depths up to 1,640 ft from an anchored semi-submersible drilling rig, typically utilizing a flowbase configuration so that the tree can be retrieved without disturbing the flowlines. The tubing hanger is installed within the wellhead systems which necessitates retrieval of the tree in the event of heavy (tubing retrieval) workover.

TreeonMudline–horizontalandconventionalTheTreeonMudline(TOM)solutionisdesignedtobeinstalledinshallow water up to 296 ft. The compact design permits deployment from most standard jack-up drilling rigs and it can be installed on single satellite wells or in closely grouped clusters, with tie in to a host platform or land based facility.
