Subsea Connectors

The HD H-4 and SHD H-4 Connectors are designed for use with ABB Vetco Gray’s MS-700and SMS-700 wellheads, respectively; in deepwater, critical services where high bending loads areanticipated. High preloads allow high bending capacities and give exceptional fatigue lifecharacteristics. The SHD H-4 Connector may also be adapted for use with the standard MS-700wellhead system.All H-4 connectors are also designed for use with SGwellheads.

Locking System Design & Secondary Release System Assure Quick Release

Design of hydraulic piston providesreleasing force 23% greater thanlocking force for same operatingpressure, using primary releaseonly. Using primary and secondaryrelease system together results ina releasing force 146% greaterthan the locking force.

Ramping action between faces oflocking dog segments andwellhead housing provides anoutward radial thrust equal to thevertical pull on the connector,assuring release. Springs betweenthe locking dogsegments assist theoutwardradial thrust.

The E x F HAR H-4Connector is designed fordisconnecting with large vessel offset. Thisconnector has the same specifications as theExF H-4 Connectorwith specific modificationfor HighAngleRelease.

Positive Mechanical Release

Over 200 H-4 connectors on active rigs or underconstruction since 1964.

- Large cross-section seal preventsthe migration of hydrate forming methane gas into the H-4Connector.

- In the event that hydrates form in the H-4Connector, hydrate flushing ports located in the upperbody will facilitate their removal.

Connector to wellhead/mandrel interface is self-aligning,which assures that the gasket will not be damaged duringmakeup.

All current H-4 connector designs have the VX/VT sealprofile, and are inconel inlayed for corrosion and damageprotection.

- Replacement of seal ring does not requirepersonnel to be under connector/BOP.

- Seal isROVreplaceable and retrievable.

Indicator rod provides positive, visual indication of lockedand unlocked position as wellas cam ring travel.

Positive compression loading of the seal ring into thecorrosion and damage resistant seal surface providesreliable sealing integrity.

The dual hydraulic operating system generates 23% morereleasing force than locking force.

Dog profile design (45 degrees) assures positiveretraction of locking dog segments at separation.

355 degrees circumferential dog ring contact to the fourlocking grooves of the wellhead/mandrel profiledistributes bending and tensile loads uniformly.
