Vertigo

1
Starts with close up of a pale deathly face with black background which suggests that the film may be death. Moves on to close up on face with name of member of production team, pale black lips maybe also hinting at death. Colourlessness also could suggest this theme of death and nothingness. Sudden change to red which could connatate danger. Juxtaposed with the name of movie Vertigo and focus on eye with an extreme close up could hint at the genre of the movie Psychological thriller. Shape on the eye playing on the title of the movie Vertigo. The shot also moves in to the eye and then into next shot this transaction could also be hinting at the genre as it feels to the audience that you are moving into the eye gateway to the mind. The rest of the titles then appear at once with a background of black and the feeling that you are in the persons mind the design is also a play on the title. The non diegetic instrumental in the background adds to the sense that the movie is a thriller, as the instrumental seems to climax at every different stop in the camera. The camera also doesn’t actually cut the camera movies from shot to shot and you are able to see the movement of the camera this adds to the sense of realism for the character as you can see small movements which hint at some life in the character such as movement of the pupils. The first three titles come on screen quite quickly there is between 7-9 seconds between them but they do not stay on the screen for a long time the next set of titles which could be argued are for the less important people than the first three which were the main character and the director and the name of the movie, come on for longer- 10 seconds compared to 2-3 for the first cluster - as there are more names in the shots and from then on the titles change a second after each other.
