Information on the Signposter • This is a signposting document to assist in finding alternative providers of

equipment than HES.

• The prime audience is for Service Users that would like more choice on the range

of equipment than prescribers have recommended and would like to top-up

provision through self-funding.

• To provide additional quality assurance, the providers/sellers on this list are drawn

from members of the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA). If a provider

would like to be included on this list they must evidence membership of BHTA.

• Hertfordshire Equipment Service (HES) accepts no liability for any conduct

performed by the listed providers.

• However it is encouraged to report poor conduct to HES so that the document can

be reviewed.

• It is the responsibility of Service Users to always do their own research and

checks on any company before conducting business with them.

Equipment or Furniture • Equipment and furniture are not the same.

• Equipment is/are item/s that meeting a health or social care need.

• Furniture can be readily purchased “off the shelf” – although some advice may

be needed concerning optimum dimensions.

• Sometimes there is a need that can be met by furniture –rather than escalating

the request for specialised equipment

• Alternative furniture – or modification to existing furniture -shall be considered in

the first in stance as being more cost effective and often less intrusive with in the

home

• For example, purchase of lower beds or chairs should be explored before

looking at height adjustable hospital beds or specialist chairs.
