Veritas Academy is an independent, classical/liberal arts, Christian, college-prep school founded in 2005 in Austin, Texas. A K-12 day school, it is

modeled after the classical trivium in its Schools of Grammar (PreK-4th), Logic (5th-8th), and Rhetoric (9th-12th). In grades 8-12, students attend classes on

a college-like schedule with a mix of one-, two-, and three-day-a-week classes. The Socratic method and harkness discussions are liberally used to

foster deep thinking and effective communication/public speaking skills. Students take ownership of their learning through independent reading,

research, and study outside of the classroom. As a family ministry, the school accepts students with a variety of learning aptitudes and differences.

Veritas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, accredited by SACS CASI (AdvancED), and unaffiliated with any church or denomination.

Academic State Champions Among private schools in Texas, Veritas has been named Academic State Champion three times and runner-up twice in the past seven years.

Diploma Plans

Veritas Diploma Students earn a Veritas Diploma by completing all graduation requirements, as well as the unique graduation requirements listed at right.

Distinguished Diploma Students earn this distinction by completing all requirements of the Veritas Diploma and addition-ally completing three weighted courses, earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher in Leadership classes, and maintaining an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Self-Managed Plan Because of Veritas Academy’s unique model (college-style course offering), some students attend the school but elect not to complete all of their Texas graduation requirements at Veritas. This is noted on the student’s transcript, and a Veritas Diploma is not conferred in these instanc-es. For college applications for these students, the Veritas transcript is supplemental to the family-produced transcript that certifies graduation.

Unique Graduation Requirements

Senior Thesis: year-long independent research project, culminating with a written report and then an oral presentation (20 minutes) and de-fense (20 minutes of Q&A) before a panel of fac-ulty judges at the end of the senior year. Advanced Senior Thesis participants memorize their entire speeches, present to a large public audience, and offer their defense before expert judges in their subject matter.

Veritas Academy offers a rigorous, classical/liberal arts and sciences, college-prep curriculum at all course levels. Veritas esteems a strong work ethic, academic accountability, and vigorous class partici-pation from all students no matter the level of the courses taken. Therefore, course weightings are modest and sparingly applied.

Official transcripts provide both the weighted and unweighted GPAs. Weighted GPAs are given a weighting of 1.1; unweighted GPAs are calculated based on the values below:

As an intense, classical/liberal arts school, all courses at Veritas are administered at an honors level, as evidenced, in part, by Veritas students' performance on standard-ized tests (avg. ACT=30; avg. SAT=1917). Per the ACT Research Report Series, such high standardized test scores correlate with a high school GPA well above 3.9; this compares to an avg. Veritas GPA of 3.39 due to the school’s rigorous work loads and uncompromising grading standards.
