SEPA is a project to harmonise the way we make and process retail payments in euro. The goal is to make payments in euro and across Europe as fast, safe and efficient as national payments are today. SEPA enables customers to make cashless euro payments to anyone located anywhere in Europe, for example by credit transfer, direct debit or debit card.

SEPA - The Single European Payments Area

DIRECT DEBITS FROM ANY ACCOUNT!! Up from February 2014 you will be able to set up your direct debits from any European Account. This means that for example, you could tell the Spanish Water board, that you would like to pay your bill from the IBAN number starting with GB. As all direct debits will now have to be informed with the complete IBAN number. Existing direct debits do not have to be changed.
