VanAir Ventilated DoorsCommercial and residential applicationsVentilation and acoustic privacy are crucial in commercial buildings. They build the foundation for an effective workplace. A work environment that is discomforting will have negative effects on productivity. Offices, meeting rooms, kitchens, and washrooms need adequate ventilation and acoustic separation. The VanAir door delivers this in an effective, elegant and simple solution. And in some retrofit cases, it is the only viable solution.

At home, it is important to emphasize good ventilation practices between enclosed spaces. In air-based heating and cooling systems that are designed around a central return, an unobstructed pathway from the room to the return is crucial. It isn’t a problem when doors are open. But when doors are closed, air circulation is reduced allowing pressure and temperature to build up. The VanAir door is an aesthetic and economical solution compared to unsightly and costly ducts and grilles.

Homes are also being built and renovated with air tight envelopes to try and maximize energy efficiency. This reduces the amount of fresh air infiltration, and building codes are evolving to improve air circulation with Heat Recovery Ventilators and exhaust fans on continuous or timed schedules. The effectiveness of these exhaust fans in washrooms and kitchens is reduced with closed

doors, especially when bedroom doors are also closed at night. With the VanAir door, you can easily provide unobstructed air pathways in your home to help create a healthy indoor environment.

Our storyIn the fall of 2012, our journey began during a business accelerator course called New Venture Design at the University of British Columbia. We designed and built these doors at the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing, and we conducted laboratory and in situ testing at the Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability. Every door we’ve made is installed into a building, each an improvement from the last. We’ve won several business competitions and awards from our success, so we decided to continue on after graduation.

VanAir Design now operates in Vancouver, BC, designing solutions for sustainable buildings and efficient retrofits. Our goal is to improve Indoor Environmental Quality to enhance the quality of life and well being of people in buildings. We didn’t reinvent the door, but we believe it can do more than open and close, so we made it better.

A new perspective on doors.Rediscover them today.

VanAir Doors are manufactured with NAUF components and factory applied No-VOC paint, stain and clearcoat options.

Acoustic privacyThe VanAir door was developed with innovative acoustic attenuation technologies unheard-of in doors. To silence the air pathway, we designed and engineered the door with vibration damping, acoustic insulation and resonator constructions to reduce sound transmission across the door.

As a result, it maintains the acoustic privacy of comparable solid core doors. In some cases, out performing them at higher frequencies.

PATENT PENDING

The VanAir door features a silenced ventilation pathway that is elegantly integrated into the door. This allows air to flow in and out of an enclosed space such as your office or room while the door is closed. Acoustic attenuation technologies are integrated into the door so you don’t lose your acoustic privacy. It functions to improve Indoor Environmental Quality in an aesthetically pleasing way.

The door helps to facilitate air movement within a building, allowing for a reduction in ducting and space allocated to building services. This simplifies building design and provides specifiers with a higher degree of design flexibility. As a result, these doors create value for new construction and retrofit projects.

New Construction Retrofit

• Simplify building design • Improve Indoor Air Quality

• Reduce use of ducting materials • Balance pressure and temperature

• Reduce construction time • Reduce building modifications

The VanAir door provides an air pathway with acoustic privacy in an unthinkable amount of space. Its sleek design exhibits better aesthetics and acoustic privacy than doors with vents and grilles. Unlike ducting, installation is as simple as hanging or replacing a door. No door has been built this way before. But its features make so much sense, that it’s hard to imagine building it any other way.

Those working and living in spaces equipped with VanAir doors will appreciate the high performance aspects of these doors as they relate to comfort, Indoor Environmental Quality and Indoor Air Quality.
