A vacancy has arisen in the Children’s Unit at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy for an Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner at Band 7 level to join our team. At present we have 3 qualified Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner.

Our unit consists of an outpatient department, ambulatory care unit and an acute paediatric ward. We care for children requiring both medical and surgical nursing whilst working closely with the Neonatal Unit, Accident and Emergency department and Theatre Recovery and the tertiary centres in Edinburgh and Glasgow

You will be required to be a qualified Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner with recent experience of working as an APNP. You will be required to work within a multidisciplinary team being accountable for the delivery of specialised episodes of care. Excellent communication skills and multi-disciplinary working are essential

An up to date knowledge of evidence-based practice, and a commitment to learning and the delivery of clinically effective care are vital.

UCAT provide, in collaboration with medical staff colleagues, a response to all episodes of unscheduled mental health care in Fife. This is a 24 hour, 7 days a week service. The Team also supply Charge Nurse support to the Acute Ward at Whyteman’s Brae, out of hours.

Candidates are required to have considerable experience as a Staff Nurse in an appropriate mental health setting.

This post will be busy and varied and you will be assisting with IBD, Liver and Coeliac clinics, Rapid Access Clinics through our IBD helpline and blood monitoring.

You will be responsible for various aspects of study management including helping with study approvals, set up, patient recruitment, and providing excellent clinical care, education, support and monitoring of those participants enrolled.

Additionally, you will be involved with accurate and confidential data collection, liaising with national trial centres and study monitors. You will work collaboratively with Principal and Chief Investigators and the wider multi-disciplinary teams in the management of your own caseload of research patients and studies.

The post would be ideally suited to an experienced nurse with excellent organisational and IT skills. Either extensive previous clinical experience or clinical

trials work experience is essential for this Band 6 role, as is the ability to manage a number of concurrent projects.

The Surgical High Dependency at Victoria Hospital is a busy 8 bedded unit and currently has a permanent vacancy for first level nurse with a genuine interest in critical care nursing. Although based in Surgical High Dependency you will be required to be flexible and willing to work between Surgical High Dependency, Intensive Care Unit and Medical High Dependency Unit as unit activity and patient dependency dictates. There is also a requirement to work elsewhere in the hospital as work load dictates.This area operates an 11.5 hours shift pattern, day / night rotation, weekend working and will require some working on public holidays.

ICASS (Integrated Community Assessment & Support Service) has the overall aim of improving the quality of care and outcomes for older people with the intention of allowing them to remain independent within their own homes or communities.

Part of this service is the Hospital @ Home service within the Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth area and an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to work a part of the hospital @ Home team.

You should have excellent communication skills, a good range of clinical skills and ideally should have a least 2 years experience in several clinical settings. You should be able evidence interpersonal skills in order to meet the challenges of this evolving service and a flexible approach to working in the community with an interest in caring for patients in their own homes.

This post involves flexibility to work over a 7 day period with the potential to take part in on call duties overnight.

An opportunity has arisen for a part time qualified nurse to work within the District Nursing team based at Cardenden Health Centre. The post is offered on a fixed term basis, to cover maternity leave until 02/02/18. You will be a 1st level registered nurse (adult nursing) with an interest in District Nursing. You will also have excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to working within the community setting. You will deliver a high standard of person-centred, non-discriminatory care to patients in the West Fife area. Primarily, this post is based from Cardenden Health Centre, but the post holder will be assigned work covering the wider areas of Lochgelly, Lochore, Ballingry, Kinglassie and Cardenden as service delivery and staffing levels dictate.

Previous Community experience is desirable, but not essential as full induction to the post will be given. The post also includes participation in the weekend Rota. If appropriate you will be expected to undertake the NHS Flying Start programme.

We are looking for two Consultant Neonatologists to join our existing team in Fife delivering quality care to babies and their families.

You will join a close-knit team of neonatologists and general paediatricians working across both acute (hospital-based) and community settings. The current general paediatric consultant team have special interests in allergy, child protection, diabetes, endocrinology, respiratory, gastroenterology, neurobehavioural paediatrics, rheumatology, neurology and cardiology. You will be encouraged to work closely with specialists in the regional centres, to contribute to audit and research on the unit and to further enhance and promote paediatric training in Fife. This post carries a mandatory on-call commitment.

We are a level 3 neonatal unit based in the Victoria Hospital with six ITU/HDU cots and 14 special care cots with the unit admitting around 450 infants per year. The birth rate in NHS Fife is approximately 3500 per year. We are part of the SE Scotland neonatal Managed Clinical Network. Badgernet has been in operation in the unit for the past 3 years and the maternity system is about to start up in August 2016. The unit delivers therapeutic hypothermia, HFOV and inhaled nitric oxide therapies and cares for infants of any gestation. Only surgical and cardiac neonates are routinely transferred elsewhere for treatment. We have regularly run Newborn Life Support courses for all new nurses and medical staff since 2003.

The Paediatric and Child Health Services in Fife are delivered across a number of community settings and in a 24 bedded in-patient ward located in the recently built wing of the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. A separate Children’s Out-Patient Department and Ambulatory Care Unit complete the services offered in the hospital. There are around 3000 medical paediatric admissions per annum. Additional out-patients services are offered at the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline.

Applicants must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining specialist registration at the time of interview. Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. MRCPCH (or equivalent) is also essential.

What is Flying Start?The Flying Start NHS® programme is a self-directed, web-based development programme for all newly qualified Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals (AHP) working within NHS Scotland, who are in their first year of practice.

Flying Start was produced by NHS Education for Scotland (NES) in 2006 and developed in line with research findings that confirmed that a period of preceptorship bridges the theory-practice gap and supports recruitment and retention.

It provides self-directed learning through ten learning units. You select activities most appropriate to your learning needs and area of work. These are:

What are the expectations within NHS Fife for Flying Start?There is an expectation within NHS Fife that staff should complete two thirds the activities as close to the initial twelve month period as possible. The ten learning units correspond with the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF). This provides a structure against which the newly qualified practitioner (NQP) can formulate their Personal Development Plan (PDP) and support their progression through the KSF foundation gateway.

What support is available for me?Every individual is responsible for registering on the website, getting started and working through the programme, however:

You will be allocated a mentor, who will offer you support, feedback and guidance during your first year in practice.

The Newly Qualified Practitioner Flying Start ‘Rolling Programme’ is offered throughout NHS Fife by the Practice & Professional Development Department (Nursing and Midwifery Practice Education Facilitators and the AHP Practice Education Lead). These 4 sessions offer you support and guidance about getting

started and progression through Flying Start, as well as putting you in touch with other practitioners participating in the programme.

The Practice is based within Kirkcaldy Health Centre and conveniently situated next to Victoria Hospital and Whyteman’s Brae Hospital. Our current list size is approximately 7300. The Practice is paper-light and uses Vision and Docman.

The Practice has 4 GP Partners, 1 salaried GP, 1 Associate Nurse Partner, 1 Specialist Practice Nurse, 1 Practice Nurse and a hard-working team of 12 admin staff. We pride ourselves on providing excellent patient care at all times and work hard to offer a wide range of services to suit the needs of our patients.

Due to retiral of our Senior Partner, we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated GP to join our team. There is the option for this post to be salaried or the option for partnership. Muiredge surgery is a well-established practice situated on the Fife coast, 10 minutes’ drive from Kirkcaldy and approximately 30-35 minutes’ drive from Dundee and Edinburgh.

Summary of Job Purpose and Principal DutiesApplications are invited from NMC registered adult nurses, preferably with a higher degree and a teaching qualification, to join our highly motivated team in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. EXCITING SECONDMENT OPPORTUNITY

If you have well developed skills and experience in working with people who are experiencing homelessness, this could be an exciting career development opportunity for you to develop these skills within the community.

The NHS Fife Intervention Project is a highly innovative 18 month programme to test a new approach to providing services in NHS Scotland hospitals for those patients who are homeless. The project will be managed by Shelter Scotland and is supported by a multi-agency Steering Group led by Fife Council Housing Services and the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership. The key aims of this project are to:

improve working links between health and housing services provide homeless individuals with the right support to improve their health outcomes reduce the re-admission rates among this cohort evaluate the preventative value of this approach in reducing pressures on NHS

Emergency Departments in Scotland.

The project will employ 2 staff and be run from Victoria NHS Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife . There will be close partnership working with hospital staff to engage patients who are identified as having insecure housing. Workers will follow a five-stage process to engage with the patient, undertake an immediate crisis response, work with them to identify key goals, put this into action focused on helping the person to develop skills and resilience, and finally support them to move on.

The project will focus on emergency admissions at VHK and Out of Hours. The target group will be individuals of any age and families who are homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness. This project will be evaluated by Healthcare Improvement Scotland, who will work alongside the staff team in identifying outcomes and learning.

A key aim of this project is to share learning and build capacity with key stakeholders across Fife. Applications are thus being sought from staff in Fife Council Housing Services and NHS Fife who are interested in being seconded to staff the project. Key skills required include: needs assessment; experience of casework or care/support planning & delivery; experience of collaborative working. A significant programme of staff training and development will be a feature of this project.
