Utilities (electric & natural gas) allocate resources to promote energy efficiency

DCEO administers Public Sector through its Illinois Energy Now Program

www.illinoisenergy.org

Encourage investment in energy efficiency through:◦

Boiler Tune-Ups◦

Steam Trap Replacement◦

Pipe Insulation

Applications Accepted through May 15th, 2012

Boiler Tune-Ups◦

Boiler size >200,000 Btuh◦

High/Low ($300) or Fully Modulating ($600)◦

No previous tune-up within last 12 months

Steam traps◦

For traps that are leaking steam (failed “open”)◦

Detection method (pyrometer, ultrasound or visual)◦

$60 -

$300 per steam trap

No previous scheduled maintenance within 24 months

Pipe Insulationo Available for missing/defective Insulation (not for

new pipes)o Incentives vary by pipe size and R factoro Documentation (pictures) of existing Insulation

and new Insulation are required

Application must be submitted by the facility/boiler ownerContractor information/sign-off required (final application)Pre-Approval Application required only if:◦

Total incentive request will exceed $10,000 (and/or) ◦

Total estimated # of failed steam traps exceeds 30 (and/or)◦

Total estimated installed pipe insulation exceeds 300 linear feet◦

Customer wants to confirm eligibility and reserve incentive funds prior to completion of work

Final Approval Application always required◦

DCEO will review, approve and issue the check

Section 3 –

“Technician Pipe Insulation Reporting Requirements”

Must be filled out in its entirety ◦

Section 1: General Information

Section 2: Building/Facility Information

Section 3: Applicant Certifications

Section 1: “Contractor Boiler Tune-Up Reporting Requirements”

Section 2: “Technician Steam Traps Reporting Requirements”

Section 3: “Technician Pipe Insulation Reporting Requirements”

Must be completed by the Contractor performing the work

Complete a separate Section 1 for each boiler included in the application

A copy of the Contractor’s standard Combustion Report must be attached to the filled out worksheet.

Tune-Ups must produce energy savings to be eligible (e.g. after tune-up readings must have higher efficiencies than before tune-up readings)

• Pre and Post Combustion data (O2, CO, CO2, Excess Air, Stack Temp, Combustion Efficiency)

Checklist of tasks to be completed

The contractor performing the tune-up is required to initial that each of the following tasks has been completed.

Measure combustion efficiency before tune-up using an electronic flue gas analyzer

Include copy of combustion analyzer test (combustion report)Adjust airflow and reduce excessive stack temperaturesAdjust burner gas input, manual or motorized draft controlClean burners, combustion chamber and fire-side exchange

surfaceInspect and clean burner nozzlesCheck for proper ventingComplete visual inspection of system piping and insulationCheck safety controlsCheck adequacy of combustion air intakeMeasure combustion efficiency after tune-up using an

electronic flue gas analyzer

Identify method of failure detection:◦

Pyrometer (Infrared Thermometer)◦

Listening Device (Ultrasounds)◦

Visual Inspection

Provide Steam Trap Information◦
