En la Enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal se producen los siguientes eventos.

Calprotectina FecalCalprotectina Fecal Primera aislada Proteína que se une al calcio y Zinc Actividad antibacteriana y antifúngica.

◦ Constituye el 60% de las proteínas del citosol de los neutrófilos y en menor cantidad en los monocitos y macrófagos reactivos

◦ Abundante en los fluidos corporales en proporción directa al grado de inflamación y migración de neutrófilos al tracto gastrointestinal.

Resistente a la degradación bacteriana en el intestino Estable en las heces hasta una semana a

temperatura ambiente.

• ELISA (PhiCal ELISA)• Muestra de menos de 5 g de heces

• (Equivalente a una muestra de 24 horas)

• Se ha sugerido que la excreción de calprotectina varia con la edad• Corte de menos de 50 ug/g es útil tanto para adultos como

para niños entre 4 y 17 años
