1. But why is Churchill so unpopular in the House? Perhaps his
arrogance and his bad judgement are the reasons, and yet his
many magnificent qualities are obvious to all.
Do you think this is a good assessment? Examine his life. What were his
defects and his qualities?
2. At the age of nine Thatcher won a poetry recital competition at the local
festival. When the head (directeur) congratulated her, saying she was
lucky, Thatcher was indignant: I wasnt lucky. I deserved(mriter) it
because I worked hard, she said.
What does this anecdote tell you about Thatcher ? Trace her life andcareer.
