WASATCH FRONT
This identification guide highlights several invasiveplants in Utah that cause economic and ecologicaldamage to forests, range and wildlands. Many of theplants listed below can be found in the Salt Lake Val-ley, but are not yet widespread in our canyons andmountains.
Invasive and noxious weeds alter native plant commu-nities and displace wildlife. When weeds are detectedearly they can be more easily contained or removedbefore permanent ecological damage occurs.

Leafy Spurgeuphorbia esula
A deep rooted perennial with toxic properties. Grows in arange of habitats from riparian areas to dry rocky slopes.
Yellow Starthistleentaurea solstitialis
A spine covered annual with yellow flowers & wingedstems. Grows on arid lands such as rangeland & pastures.
Clusters of yellowgreenflowers
Long narrow leaves contain awhite milky sap
Yellow dandelion like flowers
1-2 inch long spines
Wooly ridged stems

A 2-3 ft tall perennial with waxy leaves & yellow flowers.Grows in dry rocky soils on rangeland & disturbed areas.
A 4 ft tall perennial with branching stems. Grows in arange of habitats from moist riparian areas to dry slopes.
A 15 ft tall biennial with yellow flowers & bluish greeneaves . Grows just about everywhere.
