We’ve created the Provost’s Scholars Program— a bachelor’s degree in three years that offers all of the benefits of a four-year degree (like one less year of tuition and living expenses, not to mention an extra year of earning power) without the drawbacks (like an anxiety-inducing workload or a rushed, unfulfilling college experience)— especially for those highly motivated students.

In fact, we’ve built life-shaping, outside-of- the-classroom experiences like study abroad, internship and living learning opportunities into the curriculum to ensure that you experience everything USF has to offer. That way you can earn your undergraduate degree in three years and cheer on the Bulls football team, conduct research and hold an office in Student Government. As a Provost’s Scholar at USF, you can charge ahead without missing a thing.

WhAT’S A ProvoST? A provost is the senior academic officer at many universities in the United States and Canada. The provost is responsible for all academic programs and is the second-in-command of the institution. At USF, our provost is Dr. ralph Wilcox. You’ll have a chance to meet him—at the beginning of each academic year, all Provost’s Scholars will be invited to eat dinner with Dr. Wilcox.

While you will meet with your academic advisor during the summer before your freshman year to create an individualized plan tailored to your area of study and your educational goals, the following chart provides an outline of what your three years in the Provost’s Scholars Program might entail.

SUmmER 1) Make certain that you’ve completed at least 18 college credits before enrolling at USF. If you’re a few credits short, enroll in USF summer courses to make up the difference. Your advisor will help you.

2) Meet with your USF advisor to create an individualized comprehensive plan of studies.

During your first semester, you’ll take 4 or 5 classes, earning between 15 and 18 credits.

Complete 15 to 18 credits. once you’ve settled in on campus, join a pre-professional fraternity or volunteer at Moffitt Cancer Center.

EdUcATiON ABROAd In preparation to engage an increasingly globalized world, Provost’s Scholars will be expected to participate in an education abroad experience. You may choose from any of USF’s more than 25 education abroad programs or select specially designed, issue-specific programs surrounding topics such as sustainability, public health and global diversity, to name a few. Provost’s Scholars will receive an education abroad scholarship of up to $2,000 to cover the expenses involved with international travel and lodging.

AccESS TO HONORS cOllEgE pROgRAmS Because the Provost’s Scholars Program is housed in USF’s honors College, you’ll benefit from access to seminars, lecture series and other specialized academic programming.

HONORS liviNg lEARNiNg cOmmUNiTYDuring your first two years as a Provost’s Scholar, you’ll reside in the honors Living Learning Community,a close-knit, diverse and respectful community ofapproximately 300 students located in the newlyconstructed Juniper hall. As a member of the honors Living Learning Community, you’ll benefit from a wide range of special programs—like dinners with honors faculty members and on-site tutoring services—all without leaving the building.

FAcUlTY ANd cOmmUNiTY mENTORS Provost’s Scholars will be paired with a mentor faculty member, an alumnus or industry leader in their field of study. As a result, you’ll have the opportunity to conduct research with faculty and shadow successful professionals in the community, all while earning valuable hands-on experience.

ScHOlARSHipSAs a Provost’s Scholar, you could be awarded scholarships ranging from $2,000 per year to full tuition. While these scholarship opportunities are usually only applicable to the costs associated with eight fall and spring semesters, Provost’s Scholars will be able to apply their scholarships to eight consecutive semesters, including two summer terms of study.* * In order to receive scholarship funds toward summer courses, you must be enrolled in at least six credit hours.
