USER'S MANUAL DEGAUSSER DEG-15T
1. Introduction
The degausser DEG-15T is an innovative device for the safe erasure of magnetic storage mediums,
especially 3,5“ half-space hard discs.
The degausser DEG-15T is made in Germany and contains only high quality components to
guarantee a secure erasure at any time and a continual operation.
For the erasure of magnetic media a very strong electromagnetic field is necessary which the
DEG-15T produces in its enclosure. Under certain circumstances electromagnetic fields can be
hazardous for humans, therefore the DEG-15T is equipped with a wide-ranging security system.
The security system consists of two independent control systems which monitor operation and
each other continuously. Should either one of the systems malfunction the degausser switches
automatically into the protection mode and shuts the degausser down until normal operating
conditions are restored. If an error is not solvable a corresponding message on the display will
appear. If such a case should ever occur please contact our support.
The DEG-15T contains technically conditioned some parts that are subject to normal wear. Those
parts should be checked on a regular basis and be replaced if necessary. A service check should
be done no later than when a self-indication is issued. With that system the safety and function
of the degausser with its complete effect is ensured.
This replacement must be done only by authorized service personal, otherwise danger of life is given.
This „service“ is normally displayed by the degausser automatically according to the number of
operating hours and/or erasing procedures. In case of further operations without accomplishing the
maintenance work, it switches into the protection mode. In that case no erasing procedure can be run
to ensure a safe erasing procedure and to prevent possible hazards for the user.

8) Control of the erasure process
A proper built magnetic field and therefore a reliable erasure can be identified on the magnetic
field gauge in the display (F1). Monitor this gauge during an ongoing erasure process. Bigger
deviations will be recognized by the degausser automatically. In such a case a corresponding
error message will be shown on the display followed by a acoustic warn signal.
If such a case should occur switch the device off and on (by disconnecting the power cord for 15
minutes (ONLY IN THE STANDBY MODE)) and restart the degaussing process. If nevertheless the
field intensity is still too weak please contact our support team.
The erasure process takes only 2.5 minutes. The erasure process's end is signaled by the blinking
of the green signal light (F4).
When using the additional option DokuKit the end of a erasure process is signaled by a success
message on the PC's monitor followed by erasure report for the particular hard drive.
9) Removal of the erasure medium
With the green signal light (F4) the end of the erasure process is indicated and the front hatch is
automatically unlocked by the degausser. Pull the hatch gently open and remove the data
medium. After a few seconds the front hatch will be locked again. It can be unlocked at any time

3.2. Safety features
Underload
If the power consumption is smaller then usual the degausser switches into the safety mode due
to safety reasons. If this should happen repeatedly please contact our support team.
Overload
If the load is to high the degausser switches into hibernation until normal conditions prevail. This
can be recognized by a corresponding message in the display followed by a optical and acoustic
warn signal.
Excessive Temperature
To protect the degausser from excessive ambient temperature, it is equipped with an excessive
temperature shut-off. During this period the device is in the extended cooling mode. After
attaining normal heat conditions it can be used as usual.
Excessive temperature can also be caused by too fast consecutively erasures which is a normal
safety feature to protect the device from damage.
Field intensity
In case of derivations from the nominal field intensity, both positively and negatively, the
degausser recognizes this error automatically and stops the active erasing process. In this case
an according text message is shown in the display, followed by an acoustic and optical warning
signal.
Manipulation protection
The degausser recognized and records if someone tries to manipulate the device.
Redundancy
All safety-critical modules in the degausser are designed redundant. If a failure should occur and
a control-unit would fail to work a different control-unit will take over and protect the user from
malfunctions of the device.
Calibration
The degausser is calibrated ex factory and can be re-calibrated repeatedly during its life cycle. A
calibration by the user is not necessary. Differences from the target state and the actual state are
recognized automatically by the degausser that notifies the user to contact our support team.
Service-detection
Be If deviations from the manufacturing state are detected by the degausser the device
automatically asks for a service by showing a corresponding message in the display. This ensures
the continuous and safe operation of the degausser.
