1.1 IntroductionThe MVP-3245 is an embedded application-ready controller powered by an Intel pro-cessor. It is a powerful all-in-one automation controller with Windows XP/7 embed-ded OS support and multiple functions such as computing processing, control, communication, and human-machine display. The MVP-3245 utilizes a high-perfor-mance DSP with the SoftMotion algorithm, which supports versatile motion trackingand accurate synchronous control, thus meeting the needs of vertical applications.

The unit provides various functions for 4-axis motion control, including 2-axis/3-axislinear and circular interpolation, track path planning, and synchronous motion func-tions such as E-CAM, tangent following, and gantry. Moreover, the high-speed posi-tion comparison and trigger functions are ideal for various types of machine visionsolutions.

The MVP-3245 provides an extra 16 isolated digital inputs and 16 isolated digital out-puts, making it highly suitable for digital signal detection and control.

Additionally, its design is based on Common Motion API architecture, which uses aunified API. Programmers can integrate any Advantech SoftMotion motion controllerwithout major modification of any code, thus enabling convenient maintenance andupgrades. (For further details, please refer to the SoftMotion software manual.)

The MVP-3245 can be applied in automation software integration and test applica-tions for all types of equipment, making it an outstanding solution with comprehen-sive software support.

3.1.2 Jumper SettingOn the MVP-3245, CN24 (axis X), CN25 (axis Y), CN26 (axis Z), and CN27 (axis U)can be configured via jumper settings.

The circuit shown in Figure 3.3 (with the first two rows of CN24-CN27 short-circuited)is set to differential output mode as default.

To switch to single-ended output mode, simply change the jumper connector.

Change the output voltage of CW+/PULS+ and CCW+/DIR+ on the I/O connector'spin of any axis to +5 V when the first two rows of CN24-CN27 are short-circuited.

3.1.3 Output Pulse [CW±/PULS± and CW±/DIR±]There are two types of pulse command: clockwise/counterclockwise mode and pulse/direction mode.

CW+/PULS+ and CW-/PULS- are differential signal pairs, as are CCW+/DIR+ andCCW-/DIR-.

The default pulse output mode is pulse/direction. The output mode can be changedby programming.

3.1.4 Traveling Limit Switch Input [LMT+/-]Traveling limit switches are used to protect the system. This input signal is connectedvia the photocoupler and RC filter. When the limit switch is applied, the external VEX12 ~ 24 VDC will be the power source of the photocoupler. This enables the over-trav-eling function.

3.1.5 Position Latch [LTC]This is a general purpose input pin for latching simultaneous position information.Users can read the position counter by programming.

For detailed information, refer to the software manual.

3.1.6 Servo Ready Signal [RDY]This is a general purpose digital input for checking the servo “ready” status from theservo drive connection.

For example, the status can be verified before any command is issued. This inputcan also be used as a general purpose input for other applications.

3.1.7 Home Position [ORG]The home position defines the original position or home signal for each axis. For pro-gramming settings, please refer to the software manual.

3.1.8 In-Position Signal [INP]The in-position range (or deviation) is usually defined by the servo drive. When themotor moves and converges in this range (or deviation), the servo drive will broad-cast a signal to indicate that the motor is in the defined position.

3.1.9 Servo Error and Alarm [ALM]This input is from the servo drive, which will generate an alarm signal in the event ofan operation error.

3.1.10 Encoder Input [ECA+/-, ECB+/-, ECZ+/-]When the feedback encoder signals arrive, ECA+/ECA- is connected to phase A ofthe encoder output. It is a differential pair.

The same rule applies to ECB+/- and ECZ+/-. The default setting for the PCI-1285/1285E is quadrature input (4 x AB phase). The following schematic shows the inter-face circuit for one channel:

Figure 3.5 Circuit Diagram of Encoder Feedback

3.1.11 Emergency Stop Input (EMG)When the emergency stop input signal is enabled, the output of the drive pulse for allaxes will be stopped.

Figure 3.6 Circuit Diagram of Emergency Stop Input Signal

3.1.12 External Power Input (VEX)External power is necessary for all input signals of each axis. Apply 12 ~ 24 VDC asrequired.

3.1.13 Position Window Output [CAM-DO]As shown in Figure 3.7, the interval and level can be defined to generate a digital out-put with a predefined duration.

3.1.14 Activate Servo ON [SVON]This SVON generates a digital output to activate the servo drive to be ready for movestatus.

3.1.15 Servo Error Counter Clear [ERC]The signal to clear the deviation counter is generated by the servo drive, and theboard can receive it as a general purpose input. The counter will be cleared for suchinstances as homing, emergency stop cases, servo alarms, and for when the over-traveling limit is activated.

3.1.16 Position Compare Output [CMP]This is specifically designed for using the position compare output to synchronizewith other third-party vision devices.

The position compare output channel is determined by the pin definition for CMP

3.1.17 JOG and MPGJOG and MPG mode can be supported by pin assignment for X_IN4 and X_IN5.These two pins are switchable. Both pins have three functions: general purpose digi-tal input, JOG+, and MPG+ for X_IN4; and general purpose digital input, JOG-, andMPG- for X_IN5. The circuit is shown in Figure 3.8:
