Inactive Features - Animation & Sound Media

Use of Interactivity in PowerpointUnit 85 5/5/2014 LectureInactive Features - Animation & Sound MediaMultimedia refers to content or a product that uses a combination of different forms of content. This contrasts with media that use only rudimentary computer displays such as text-only or traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, or interactivity content forms.

Interactivity refers to a set features that are either programmed (automated) or Interactive with the environment (interactive user (mouse click or move over an object), event driven (monitoring and when it occurs a task is performed), or condition (If Then Logic branching) in order to perform predefined tasks within a presentation. These are typical break points in your presentation that will allow you to demonstrate a particular principle or concept. Animation vs Simulation ??Earlier in our lectures we discussed complex documents documents that employ a elements generated in another application and copied and manipulated in another app, eg, Word using a Excel table and pie chart in a report or a powerpoint slide show that uses existing sales totals that can be attached as a object into the Powerpoint or a section of the table brought into the powerpoint. The idea was not to have to recreate information or materials. If it exist and current use it and apply it to quickly create a new product. http://www2.latech.edu/~schroder/mathcd.htmlWhy and When to Use Animation? Enhance the effectiveness of your message/purposePoor presenters use animation in place of substance. For decoration/cute/cheesy/etc Part of Planning State. Part of knowing your audience, the audio visuals you will be using (computer speed/audio effects/software loaded on the PC, etc.Is it necessary. Simple is always better in this case.Purpose for the movement is important! Movement on slides (any movement attracts audience attention good and bad ) In the flow of the presentation, when is an optimum time?No one size answer fits all but knowing your audience helps and planning is critical. UsesGood for revealing complex information in stages. Makes it memorable.Highlight the key areas, when there are many competing elements on your slide. E.g. a key process or critical component in a process flow diagram you are explaining.Fully illustrating or demonstrating a concept from beginning to end, Narrative long form step by step. NOTE: Best used for training applications or an online 24 hr resource. In a business presentation, custom animation without purpose is a recipe for disaster. Animation and multimedia is a high risk proposition. It takes an enormous amount of time to do to plan and do it right. I recommend it for only major high stake high payoff events. Better to leave it out if you think it will not be effective or distract the audience, e.g the animation becomes the topic of discussion and not the purpose of the briefing.Powerpoint is able to handle several file formatsWavWmfAvimpeg

Animation Steps/Process FlowBegin with the Animation Tab ( Home\Insert\Design\Transitions\Animations\Slide Show\Review\View\Format ). Either 1. select the object or 2. default to all and let Power point assign the default options for you. I prefer option 1 to select the specifics in order to optimize and control the delivery for maximum audience impact.Various ways to add Animation Menu Bar (None , Appear, Fade, etc>>>>>>)Add Item Menu Button Start / stop timing/ Delay until some event or time has occurred (Event Driven)Event DrivenRecord featureOrder feature to reorder the animation steps as desired.
