Register Today! Urban Response Simulation June 18 and 19, 2015 American Red Cross Building, Washington DC Please join InterAction, ALNAP and American Red Cross for an upcoming Urban Response Simulation. The multiplication of natural disasters and an ever-increasing urban population have forced organizations to rethink the way they prepare and respond to the needs of affected communities in urban settings. The key difference between the traditional rural and urban systems is the existence of one or more local administration, of a vibrant private sector, of a stronger civil society, and of a broad-range of other urban stakeholders. This two-day session will first document current practices through a pre-simulation questionnaire (mandatory for participation). During the two-day workshop, participants will use case studies, and role play to prepare for, engage in and reflect upon a simulation which focuses on understanding the urban context. The specific focus will be on understanding stakeholders in the urban environment in a dynamic way, and integrating this understanding into programming. Who should attend? Field operational staff, headquarters operational managers/policy staff, and/or others with recent relevant experience or influence. A range of skill sets and experience levels is welcome. Participants are expected to: Have some field experience in urban response, complete pre-event questionnaire, confirm participation for both days, and bring diverse sectoral expertise Expected outcome: Understand current practice for engaging urban stakeholders in humanitarian response Explore ways of identifying, understanding and working with urban stakeholders in a humanitarian response context Guidance on the process of developing and conducting a simulation exercise Registration Space is limited to 25 participants. To register please fill out the registration form no later than May 25 th . Participation on both (full) days is mandatory. Unfortunately we unable to support travel/accommodation costs for this workshop. ( Registration link: http://bit.ly/1PmiAZY ) This event is made possible with the support of USAID/OFDA.
