Had it not been for the “valuable secret” W.D. Gann pledged to have “clothed in veiled language” in

his book, “The Tunnel Thru the Air,” it could have passed for just another roaring !"s science#fiction novel. Ho$ever, students have pored over the $ords, hoping to unlock the philosoph%

behind Ganns techni&ues. Are the% on a path to enlighten'ent or 'erel% chasing a $hite rabbit into

Alices Wonderland()obert Gordon, Ganns fictional persona in “The Tunnel,” predicts the co'ing of World War **,

$hich he believes $ill be fought in the air. Gann $as a particularl% religious person, and he basedthis belief on predictions attributed to the prophets Daniel and +ekiel. “The Tunnel” is replete $ith

biblical citations pertaining to astrological ti'e c%cles that Gordon uses to predict the future,

including future co''odit% prices.*n Gordons $orld, this $orks, and as a professional futures and co''odities trader, he follo$s

these ti'e c%cles to generate a fortune fro' trading cotton. The rest of the plot covers Gordonsplans to use his trading proceeds to build an invisible airship and “air tunnel” to ensure A'erica

$ins the $ar. The airship is to keep the 'ove'ents of the A'erican ar'% out of the ene'%s sight,

$hile the air tunnel is to trap and disable the ene'%s aircraft. The blueprints for the designs arebased on a biblical co''and to the prophet +ekiel to build a chariot dra$n b% four creatures-

beside each is a “$heel $ithin a $heel $ith tall and a$eso'e ri's.”

Gann $rites that he considers the ible a scientific te/t on so'e level, and he suggests that his bookborro$s biblical concepts that $ill de'onstrate “the process b% $hich 'an 'a% kno$ all there is to

kno$, including the stock 'arket.” At the sa'e ti'e, he reveals that his 'arket predictions arebased on “geo'etr% and 'athe'atics, just as an astrono'er does, based on i''utable la$s” and

reiterates that his “calculations are based on the c%cle theor% and on 'athe'atical se&uences.” *tsi'portant to note, ho$ever, that scientific e/planations of these se&uences do not appear in the

book.

What the book does include, ho$ever, is Gordons 'eticulousl% dated and priced trading log. Thelog spans pages 0"1#02!, and is the onl% e/a'ple of Ganns trading activit% in the book. Given that

these pages contain nu'erical data, it is $here the secret to Ganns “elusive ti'e factor” should befound.

Lessons learnedHo$ever, “The Tunnel” is light on trading details. 3urprisingl%, Gann 'akes no

reference to the 3&uare#of#4, geo'etric angles or charts, and even o'its Dec. 0, 04!5, the date

cotton prices botto'ed, fro' Gordons trading log. While he laces the book $ith nu'erous

references to “$heels $ithin $heels,” possibl% a loose allusion to the “clothed in veiled language”

spiral of the 3&uare#of#4, he discusses none of the tools re&uired for cracking this books secret.

Without an application of the 3&uare, its angles and the eras cotton chart, it is i'possible to anal%e

Gordons trades. *t appears that a great deal of the 'aterial Gann said is in the book is 'issing. He

does send this signal on page 26, $here, in capital font, he boldl% tells the reader that “it is not '%

ai' to e/plain the cause of c%cles.” He then adds, rather patroniingl%, that “the general public isnot %et read% for it and probabl% $ould not understand or believe it if * e/plained it.”

To put the pule together, $e 'ust refer to Ganns 7aster 8o''odities 8ourse, as $ell as plot a

chart of Gordons trades.9n page 110 of the 7aster 8o''odities 8ourse, Gann vaguel% refers to

the 3&uare, sa%ing: *t is “i'portant because nine digits are used for 'easuring ever%thing. *f $e

divide 15" degrees b% nine, $e get ;", $hich 'easures ;" degrees, ;" da%s, ;" $eeks and ;"

interest in the'. Given that the 'ajor divisions of ti'e, including the orbits of the inner and outer
