BEYOND EXPERIENCE
BEYOND THE BOOKSHonours Arts
Your university education isn’t just what
happens in the classroom. It’s the clubs you
join, the people you meet, and the experiences
that inspire you. As an Honours Arts student,
you choose what to major in, which activities
to devote your time to, and whether or not
you want to study abroad.
23 honours majors to choose from
24 academic societies for Honours Arts students to join
#BEYONDIDEAS Jessie’s learned to
balance academics and
extracurriculars in order
to get the most out of his
time at university. As a
volunteer with the Faculty
of Arts, he mentors high
school students and shares
the experiences that led
him from high school in
Scarborough, Ontario, to
being a student leader
within the University of
Waterloo community. For
him, giving back is just as
important as what happens
in the classroom.
Whether Jessie’s playing intramural basketball or making an argument during a mock trial
competition, extracurricular activities help him expand
his résumé and develop his leadership capacity.

EXPLORE YOUR OPTIONSWith Honours Arts, you get to choose your path of
study; you can go regular or go co-op! Waterloo students
in both paths learn from the same professors, take the
same required courses, and have opportunities to connect
with other students, clubs, and activities on campus.
GO REGULAR
A regular course of study is
the most predictable — and
fastest — way to complete
your degree and move on to
your next goals. You can keep
to the schedule you're used to,
studying in the fall and winter,
and working or exploring
the world in the summer.
Or you can take courses in
the summer and accelerate,
completing your Honours
degree in less than three years.
The choice is yours.
GO CO-OP
In the winter of your second
year, you’ll start your first
co-op work term. Alternate
study and work terms in jobs
that challenge you, connect
your school work to practical
experience, and explore career
options. Waterloo’s co-op
program (the world’s largest)
links you to more than 6,700
employers all over the globe.
Just imagine where you could
go! And with 20 months of paid,
real-world experience, it’s a huge
bonus for your bank account
and your résumé.
HONOURS ARTS CO-OP
Apply for co-op at the end of first year, when you’ve
declared your major. Departmental co-op is available
for these majors:
