THE KEYS TO SUCCESS Since its creation in 1970, the Faculty of Science and Technology, which combines both fundamental and applied sciences, has offered a range of courses to prepare students in the best conditions for scientific and technological careers. Continuously improving, the University of Le Havre, including the Faculty of Science and Technology, has just joined the European area of higher education by adapting all our courses to the Bachelor--Master--PhD format. The new curricula, established by the teaching teams of the major scientific fields, i.e. mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and electrical, mechanical and civil engineering, are largely based on the abilities of our research laboratories and on professional expertise. Thanks to this synergy of skills, our graduates benefit from undeniable recognition in theindustrial world.

Thus, the expertise shared with our partners, the research capabilities of our different laboratories, and openness to international markets are all valuable assets that the Faculty of Science and Technology wishes to convey to our students.

These three areas of study enable students to continue in a Master of Science programme in a wide range of domains, be it in research or in a professional field. Students can continue directly at our university in the areas of Molecular and Cellular Biology or Environmental Sciences. In addition, the specialization in General Biology and Earth Sciences gives access to the preparation course for the competitive examination to become a primary or secondary school teacher (IUFM, CAPES). Combining theoretical and practical knowledge, the Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences allows students to acquire the necessary tools to enter the professional world.

Bioorganic Chemistry Physical Chemistry

Our course offerings in Chemistry enable students to acquire working methods in scientific fields found at the interface of important business sectors such as health, food, para-chemicals, energy, materials, and the environment. Students who obtain their Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry here can follow on to the Master of Science in Fine Chemistry at the University of Le Havre. Two different specializations are offered corresponding to the student’s preference for either material sciences or bio-chemistry: Physical Chemistry, which is more fundamental, can also lead to careers in teaching physical science, while Bio-organic Chemistry, which is more applied biology, leads to studies in bio-chemistry.

THE KEYS TO SUCCESS

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science are part of the fundamental sciences taught at the University of Le Havre. The first three semesters have a common teaching base, with students choosing their preferential area of interest in the fourth semester. These degrees are particularly adapted to allow students to continue in the Master of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science at our university. In addition, they give access to preparation for the competitive teaching examinations for primary and secondary education (IUFM, CAPES) or allow insertion in the working world, especially in the industrial sector.

The quality of life : a valuable asset, A favourable location

The right sizeThe University has managed to develop and adapt its structures without forgetting its people. A medium-sized university, it offers a welcoming and friendly environment as all the surveys carried out among the students show.

At the heart of the cityMost of the activities of the University of Le Havre take place in the very heart of town. Students, as well as our many French and foreign visitors, enjoy this ideal location.

By the seaLe Havre is not only a large, dynamic, commercial port, it is also a seaside resort with a marina and a beautiful beach and bay.

In a region rich in history and cultureLe Havre, bathed in the special light of the Seine estuary which was so inspirational for the Impressionists, is full of contrasts and emotions. It is also a starting point to visit Normandy, either along the “Alabaster Coast” to Etretat and Fécamp or across the Normandy Bridge to Honfleur, Deauville and Cabourg.
