PARTB-(2 X 15=30Marks)

Question No. 16 is Compulsory

16. Explain basic classification of stresses with neat sketches and proper live examples. Also briefly explain the types of strains and find the expression for volumetric strain use hydro-static approach.17. (a) A metallic bar 3m long carries a pull of 8 MN. It is 3cm diameter for 90cm length, and 2.8cm diameter for 120cm long and 2.5cm diameter for the remaining 90cm length. Find the total elongation of the bar and the stresses developed in it. E=2X106 N/cm2(OR)

(b) (i) Derive the stress and elongation of a bar which is being influenced by its own weight.

(7)

(ii) A bar having 1000 mm2 cross section area is subjected to axial loads as shown in figure. Find total change in length of the bar. E = 100 MPa

PARTB-(2 X 15=30Marks)

Question No. 16 is Compulsory16. Derive a relation between E, K, G and with neat explanations with sketch.17. (a) A straight bar of steel 3m long has rectangular section which varies uniformly from 10cm x 12mm at one end to 25mm x 12mm at the other end . What is the change in length if a pull of 2300 kN is applied. E= 210 GPa. OR
