“The number of hours of television watched by twelve to fifteen year olds varies from 2.5 to 3.2 hours per day from
1982 to 1987 respectively. This increase is due to the introduction of Channel Four, breakfast programmes and
daytime television”.

So... What do People Want?
FOCUS GROUP No1: I spoke to a group of around 20 15-16 year old students of Pudsey Grangefield School.
SUGGESTIONS MADE: Music Videos (Chart) Possibly Teachers or Students Presenting the show in a comedic
style. Staff involvement was strongly encouraged (day in the life of..) Sports Features News- Up and Coming Events in and out of school. Possible school work presentation (awards/ media work shown)
QUOTES: 15-16 year olds
“seeing teachers doing fun stuff would be ace. They are always fun to watch and we don’t
often see teachers making fun of themselves”
“I’d like to see my media work presented to other students in the school. I work really
hard on things and then it doesn’t get seen by anyone.”
Continued…FOCUS GROUP No2: Group of around 30 11-12 year old
students of Pudsey Grangefield School.
SUGGESTIIONS MADE:Hall shots (audience response) – spot a friend?CompetitionsEntertaining news featuresInterviews with members of the school sports teams.
Match Footage.Fly on the Wall Teacher Documentary.
Quotes: 11-12 year olds.
“Would be great to laugh at the teachers that we recognise from around school.
They should get involved with competitions and stuff.”
“The news on telly at the moment is really boring, if it was made fun I would be more
likely to watch it though.”

Contingency Plan
INCREASED BUDGET
Increase editing time Use more cameras Use more out-of-studio
locations Spend more money on
scenery and lighting
DECREASED BUDGET
Decrease the editing time
Use less time to create titles
Spend less time selecting pre-recorded material(e.g. music videos)
Is it Viable?YES. It is:
Cost effectiveTakes a practical amount of time to make Will entertain the audience Changes could easily be made if problems
occur There is evidence that this type of product has
been successful before therefore there is a gap in the market.
