Education allocation has been proposed to be raised by 24% over last year to Rs 52,057 crore, of which Rs 21,000 crore will be towards the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, a 40% increase over last year

National Innovation Council set up.   Additional Rs.500 crore for National Skill Development Fund

The minister also sanctioned Rs.20 crore to the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata for setting up a financial research and training laboratory and Rs.200 crore for the Maulana Azad Education Foundation. 

The Delhi School of Economics and Madras School of Economics have also been allotted Rs.10 crore each

Health

FM propose to hike the health budget in 2011-12 by 20 percent to Rs.26,760 crore.

Increase in service tax, there is also bound to be an increase in cost of diagnostic tests  and  doctors’ service

Medical bills are expected to go up by  5 -10% in drugs and medical equipments. Homeopathy medications cost too would  go up.

The Rashtriya Swashthya Bima Yojana has emerged as an effective instrument for providing a basic health cover to poor and marginal workers. It is now being extended to MGNREGA beneficiaries, beedi workers and others.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee hiked the country's defence budget by almost 12 percent to Rs 1.64 lakh crores for fiscal 2011-12

Proposed to reduce the qualifying age for senior citizen, from 65 years to 60 years and enhance the exemption limit from `240000 to `250000

Budget Estimation

Budget estimates for 2011-12 projects Rs 9,32,440 crore - an increase of 24 per cent.

Expenditure in 2011-12 is estimated at Rs 12,57,729 crore, an increase of 13.4%.

Revenue deficit fixed at 2.3% in revised estimates of 2010-11 and 1.8% in 2011-12.

Tax reductions to result in revenue loss of Rs 11,500 crore
