RATIONALE The basis for this policy is to set out clear guidelines for staff, parents and students with regards to uniform standards and personal grooming habits. As a Catholic school we have an obligation to uphold and encourage certain standards of dress and appearance within the school community. AIMS • To promote equality amongst all students. • To further develop a sense of pride in, and identification with our school. • To provide durable clothing that is cost effective and practical for our school environment. • To maintain and enhance the positive image of the school in the community. ACCEPTANCE OF ENROLMENT • Acceptance of enrolment into Our Lady of Good Counsel School assumes an agreement between the

school, the parent/guardian and the enrolling student that the dress code will be followed. • All families sign, as part of the confirmation of enrolment, a consent form supporting the uniform and

grooming requirements of our school and are expected to support the school in the enforcement of these requirements.

School Uniform Requirements Our uniform is a representation of our school community. Wearing the correct uniform with pride is a sign of respect and parents/guardians commit to this when enrolling their child/children at Our Lady of Good Counsel School. Correct school uniform is compulsory.

• The correct uniform is to be worn at all times, as outlined in appendix A. • Students who are unable to comply with the uniform requirements should obtain a note from their

parents outlining the reason why they cannot be dressed in proper uniform and must rectify the issue as soon as possible.

• All students should endeavour to make sure that their uniform is neat and tidy at the conclusion of breaks so that they re-enter the classroom in a respectable manner

• The shirt tails of school shirts must be tucked in on all occasions. This includes, coming to school, arrival at school, leaving school and in any situation where our school uniform is on display.

• All articles of school clothing should be clearly marked with the child’s name. THREE YEAR OLDS, KINDERGARTEN AND PRE PRIMARY Students wear their own clothing choices in Three Year Olds, Kindergarten and Pre Primary. Clothing however must comply with the schools Sun Smart Policy. Pre Primary students have the option of wearing the school sports polo. SHOES Black lace up leather shoes are not to be substituted with sports style shoes. Sports shoes are to be predominantly white, with white laces. SCHOOL HATS School hats are to be worn by all children throughout the entire year. The school operates a ‘no school hat – no play in the sun’ policy in accordance with the schools Sun Smart Policy. Pre Primary through to Year 6 students are required to wear the school hat while Kindergarten and Three Year Old children wear a hat of their own choice, as long as it meets the schools Sun Smart Policy requirements. HAIR Children’s hair should not restrict their vision while working and this applies to both girls and boys. Hair of shoulder length or longer must be tied back in the interest of safety and hygiene. Any fringe that is below eyebrow length should be clipped back or tied back. All students with collar length hair or longer must tie their hair back. Students must wear navy hair accessories - navy hair band, navy ribbons, navy scrunchies, navy clips or navy or black elastics. All hair must be clean and neatly presented. Hairstyles should be of a conservative nature and not coloured or inappropriately short or shaven. JEWELLERY Students are permitted to wear a watch or fitness tracker, one pair of matching studs (one for each ear only). Students are not permitted to wear single or multiple rings, sleepers or studs on the ear or any other part of the body. Studs and earrings are not to be worn whilst playing contact sports such as football, soccer, netball etc. One chain with a medallion of religious significance is allowed as well as wearing medical bracelets. SCHOOL BAG Students in years Pre Primary-Year 6 are required to purchase the Our Lady of Good Counsel School Bag. MAKE-UP & NAIL POLISH No student is to wear make-up or nail polish.

Dress: Check school dress with navy school sandals or black lace up or buckle school shoes (sand shoes are not to be substituted) worn with plain white ankle socks Shorts: Navy blue school shorts with navy sandals or black lace up or velcro school shoes (sand shoes are not to be substituted) worn with plain navy socks Shirt: Blue school shirt Hat: School wide brim or reversible bucket hat Hair: Navy hair ribbons, navy hair band, navy hair clips or navy or black elastics

WINTER UNIFORM TERMS 2 & 3

Dress & Blouse: Black-watch tartan tunic & white blouse with black lace up or buckle school shoes(sand shoes are not to be substituted) worn with plain white ankle socks (not low cut socks) or black winter tights Trousers & Shirt: Navy trousers & blue school shirt with school crest worn with black lace up or velcro school shoes(sand shoes are not to be substituted) with plain navy socks Shorts & Shirt: Navy shorts & blue school shirt with school crest worn with black lace up or velcro school shoes (sand shoes are not to be substituted) with plain navy socks Tie: Navy school tie Jumper: School jumper with school crest Hat: School wide brim or reversible bucket hat Hair: Navy hair ribbons, navy hair band, navy hair clips or navy or black elastics

Skorts: Netball skort with inside bike pant Shorts: Navy knit shorts Shirt: Sky blue school polo shirt with school crest & faction school polo shirt with school crest Jacket: Navy track suit jacket with school crest (to be worn with sports uniform only) Tracksuit: Navy tracksuit pants Shoes: Sports shoes are to be predominantly white, with white laces or velcro Socks: plain white ankle cuff variety (Please note that this means that socks should be seen) Hat: School wide brim or reversible bucket hat Hair: Navy hair ribbons, navy hair band, navy hair clips or navy or black elastics
