Community service learning Last year, UMassD students and staff spent 201,547 hours helping others. In fact, it is so much a part of the curriculum and the culture here that we are ranked in the top 2% on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll and one of 16 finalists, with distinction in economic development and interfaith initiatives.

Dual degree to teaching (BA/BS-MAT)

Enroll in the BA/BS-MAT as you enter your junior year, and finish your bachelor’s degree while taking education courses. You can graduate in five years with a bachelor’s in your subject area, a master’s degree in teaching, and an initial license to teach in Massachusetts for five years.

3+3 Law degreeEarn your bachelor’s degree and your Juris Doctor degree in six years rather than seven at the UMass School of Law. Undergraduates accepted into the program will have their first year at the Law School count as their senior year at the university. As the only public law school in the state, UMass Law offers an affordable option for you to pursue justice.

Live here We have 14 residence halls and four integrated living/ learning communities that provide a variety of options for the 56 percent of our undergraduates who live on campus (79 percent of the first-year students). Most first-year students live in suites, with two to a room and a shared bathroom. Our first-year buildings are co-ed, and each suite is same sex.

Feed your appetiteFrom pizza to stir-fry, sandwiches to veggie burgers and salad bars, you won’t go hungry. There are 14 places to eat on campus, some serving until 1 am. We offer lots of choices, the freshest ingredients, healthy options including vegan and vegetarian selections, much of it from local farms. You can even get coffee at the Library Cafe for those long study sessions.

Get around townAll students are allowed to have a car on campus. No car? You can use one of the campus Zipcars. The Corsair Shuttle makes stops on campus, and nearby shopping plazas. The Loop bus goes to our New Bedford campus every hour. Transportation is available from campus to Boston, and city buses take you to New Bedford and Fall River, where you can transfer to a Providence-bound bus.

The Corsairs have a long history of outstanding athletic performance. We compete in the NCAA Division III, and more than 500 UMass Dartmouth students participate in our 25 teams.

In addition to successes on the court and in the field, our student athletes excel in the classroom, earning higher average GPAs than the student population at large. In fact, more than 190 of our athletes made the Dean’s or Chancellor’s List.

Intramural sports

Not everyone wants to play intercollegiate sports. The UMass Dartmouth intramural program and well-equipped fitness center offer you a number of athletic and wellness activities, including indoor soccer, flag football, kick boxing,

indoor cycling, Zumba, and more. On average, roughly 2,000 students–more than a quarter of our under-graduates–participate on at least one intramural squad during the school year.

Ultimate Frisbee is a club sport; we offer rugby and cricket, too.

• An official high school transcript including 17 units of college prep courses

• March 1 – priority deadline for filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

• Biology, engineering, and nursing are highly competitive programs; applicants are encouraged to apply early.

• Students on the nursing wait list will be notified starting in early May if they have been accepted.

Alternative admissions Students who have completed high school or its equivalent, and whose academic performance may not demonstrate readiness for university-level work, may be eligible for admission through College Now or START. These programs have an application deadline of February 1.

Transfer students We work to maximize the transfer credits from your previous coursework, and we have formal agreements with all Massachusetts state public community colleges, as well as with Dean College, Quincy College, Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, and the Community College of Rhode Island.
