Match backgroundNewcomers KAA Gent are bidding to prolong their first UEFA Champions League campaign by clinching qualificationto the knockout stage.

• The Belgian title holders go into their matchday six fixture against Group H winners FC Zenit in second place and willprogress with a victory – or if third-placed Valencia CF fail to beat Olympique Lyonnais in the group's other fixture.

• Yet to drop a point, Zenit have already secured qualification as group winners and with another victory wouldbecome only the sixth club to achieve a 100% winning record in a UEFA Champions League group stage.

• Zenit's Belgian international defender Nicolas Lombaerts began his career with Gent.

Match backgroundGent• Gent go into their final group game on the back of two straight victories, having won at home to Valencia (1-0) onmatchday four then triumphed at Lyon (2-1) last time out.

• They are bidding to become the first Belgian side to reach the last 16 since RSC Anderlecht in 2000/01 – and thefirst to win three successive group matches since Anderlecht that year.

• Beaten 2-1 at Zenit on matchday two, Gent had only faced Russian opposition once before this season. In the1991/92 UEFA Cup third round they defeated FC Dinamo Moskva 2-0 on aggregate, winning the first leg 2-0 at theJules Ottenstadion, their old home, through goals from Erwin Vandenbergh and Marc Vanderlinden.

• Gent are already assured at least third place in the group and so will be playing European football after Christmas forthe first time since that 1991/92 campaign.

Zenit• Zenit are looking for a sixth straight win to emulate the feat of AC Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain FC(1994/95), FC Spartak Moskva (1995/96), FC Barcelona (2002/03) and Real Madrid CF (2011/12, 2014/15).

• They will win the group by a competition record-equalling 11-point margin if they beat Gent and Valencia fail to winagainst Lyon.

• Zenit last visited Belgium for a 1-0 play-off victory at R. Standard de Liège in the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League,Oleg Shatov scoring the only goal. They also won the home return 3-0.

• They lost 1-0 at RSC Anderlecht in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League group stage and their overall record inBelgium is W2 D1 L2.

Coach and player links• Lombaerts played for Gent between 2004 and 2007, making 76 league appearances and scoring once.

• André Villas-Boas's first European fixture as a head coach was with Porto against Belgian side KRC Genk in the2010/11 UEFA Europa League play-offs. Porto won the first leg 3-0 in Belgium before Hulk scored a hat-trick in a 4-2home success.

• Villas-Boas faced Genk again as Chelsea FC manager in the following season's UEFA Champions League groupstage, posting a 5-0 home win and 1-1 away draw.

• During his time as Genk coach Heinz Vanhaezebrouck suffered a 2-0 Belgian Super Cup defeat by Standard, inAugust 2009, in which Axel Witsel scored the second goal.

• Witsel scored twice against Gent as a Standard player, both times in away wins – 1-0 in May 2009 and 3-1 in April2011.

• Depoitre played alongside Witsel when making his Belgium debut in a 4-1 UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying win inAndorra on 10 October.

• Players who have played together:Laurent Depoitre, Sven Kums, Matz Sels & Axel Witsel, Lombaerts (Belgium)Brian Vandenbussche & Lombaerts (Belgium 2006–07)

• Gent won four successive games after suffering their first Eerste Klasse defeat of the season, a 3-1 loss to R.

Head coachHein VanhaezebrouckDate of birth: 16 February 1964Nationality: BelgianPlaying career: KWSC Lauwe, RC Doornik, KV Kortrijk, KRC Harelbeke, KSC Lokeren OVCoaching career: KSC Lokeren OV (assistant), KSV Ingelmunster, SW Harelbeke, KWSC Lauwe, KV Kortrijk (twice),KRC Genk, KAA Gent

• A creative defender with a good pass, Vanhaezebrouck had a solid playing career in Belgian football. He enjoyednotable spells with Harelbeke and Lokeren before hanging up his boots in 2000.

• After two years as assistant at Lokeren, he took the job of head coach at Ingelmunster in 2002. He also coached atformer clubs Harelbeke, Lauwe and Kortrijk, whom he took over in 2006.

• In Vanhaezebrouck's second season his brand of fresh, creative football steered Kortrijk to the second divisionchampionship. Vanhaezebrouck also became famous by searching for a left winger on the internet, a hunt whichculminated in the signing of forward Istvan Bakx, who became known as the Google striker.

• Vanhaezebrouck's attacking approach attracted interest from Genk, whom he joined in 2009, but after a bad start hewas fired in November with Genk in 12th place. The next season he returned to Kortrijk and steered them to theBelgian Cup final in 2012, which they lost to Lokeren, although Vanhaezebrouck was voted Belgian coach of the year.

• After four years he left Kortrijk again to join Gent in the summer of 2014. He led the club to its first BelgianChampionship in 115 years and won the Belgian Super Cup in July 2015. Vanhaezebrouck won the Guy Thys Award,a special coaching award from the Royal Belgian Football Association, which a coach can only win once.

André Villas-BoasDate of birth: 17 October 1977Nationality: PortugueseCoaching career: A. Académica de Coimbra, FC Porto, Chelsea FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC, FC Zenit

• An amateur player in his teens with Ramaldense FC and Clube Marechal Gomes da Costa, Villas-Boas never playedprofessional football, laying the groundwork for a coaching career with a spell as a teenage talent scout during SirBobby Robson's spell as coach of Porto in the mid-1990s.

• Still in his 20s, he took on a role as technical director with the British Virgin Islands Football Association in 2000, butwas back working with Porto's youth players by the time José Mourinho took him into his inner circle following hisappointment as Porto coach in January 2002.

• Initially detailed to scout upcoming opponents, he followed Mourinho from Porto to Chelsea and FC InternazionaleMilano before striking out on his own as coach of Académica in October 2009. An 11th-placed finish in his onlyseason in Coimbra was enough to persuade Porto to bring him in as Jesualdo Ferreira's replacement; hired in June2010, he became the club's youngest ever coach aged just 32.

• Oversaw a memorable 2010/11 campaign at the Estádio do Dragão, becoming the first Portuguese to guide a sidethrough a Liga campaign unbeaten, winning the Super Cup, national championship and Portuguese Cup as well asthe UEFA Europa League after beating SC Braga in the Dublin final.

• Joined Chelsea in June 2011 but lasted just nine months By the start of 2012/13 he was at Tottenham, who heguided to fifth with a club record Premier League points haul, before departing after a poor start to the followingseason. In March 2014 took over at Zenit, guiding them to the Russian Premier League title in his first full season incharge.
