Ud. and Uds. Commands


To give an affirmative or negative command in the Ud. or Uds. form, use the present-tense yo form and drop the “o” just as you did for negative tú commands.


Add -e or -en for -ar verbs.

Ud.: Cocinar Cocino Señor, cocine la cena por favor.


Uds. Cantar Canto Muchachos, canten la canción.


Add -a or -an for -er and -ir verbs.

Ud.: Servir Sirvo Señorita, sirva la ensalada.


Uds.: Perder Pierdo No pierdan Uds. los fósforos.


Affirmative and negative Ud. and Uds. commands have the same spelling changes and irregular forms as negative tú commands.

Ud. and Uds. Commands Buscar - Negative tú command? No busques Ud. command? No busque Uds. command? No busquen

Ud. and Uds. Commands Hacer - Negative tú command? No hagas Ud. command? No haga Uds. command? No hagan

The same rules you know for tú commands regarding reflexive pronouns apply to Ud. and Uds. as well.


Attach pronouns to affirmative commands.

Sra. Sanchez, lávese las manos. Señores, pónganse los guantes.


With negative commands, pronouns go immediately before the verb.

Señor Lopez, no se levante. Chicas, no se acuesten.
