EXHIBITION vs. NORTHERN ALBERTA: Seven different UAA players tallied goals on Sept. 30 as the Seawolves used a five-goal second period to pull away for a 7-2 exhibition victory over Northern Alberta Institute of Technology at the Menard Memorial Ice Arena ... sophomore Rob Gunderson had to make just six saves in his starting role to earn the victory in net, while juniors Mickey Spencer, Daniel Naslund and Scott Warner had multi-point nights, along with sophomore Matt Bailey ... the Seawolves outshot the Ooks 18-1 in the deciding frame and 38-12 for the game ... all of the UAA goals came in even-strength situations ... sophomore Chris Kamal tended the Seawolf net for the second half of the game, making four saves.

WCHA REALIGNMENT: The 2013-14 edition of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association will change dramatically with the addition of new teams and other WCHA teams forming new leagues ... to date, the WCHA will be comprised of nine teams – UAA, Alaska Fairbanks, Bemidji State, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, Minnesota State and Northern Michigan ... joining the National Collegiate Hockey Conference from the WCHA is Colorado College, Denver, Minnesota Duluth, Nebraska Omaha, North Dakota and St. Cloud State, while Minnesota and Wisconsin will be a part of the Big Ten Conference.

2011-12 SEASON PREVIEW: UAA is coming off its second-best campaign since joining the Western Col-legiate Hockey Association in 1993, and will look to carry the momentum from last season into this one ... with the addition of eight newcomers, the Seawolves will have 28 skaters sporting the Green & Gold as they look to achieve their yearly goals – win the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup and in-season tournaments, gain home-ice in the playoffs and make a run at the WCHA’s Red Baron Final Five tournament in St. Paul ... the Seawolves will have plenty of offense returning to the ice, including six of their top 10 scorers from a year ago, while adding five newcomers ... paving the way will be a pair of sophomores in Jordan Kwas and Matt Bailey ... a local of Cochrane, Alberta, Kwas was UAA’s second-leading scorer last season with 24 points, while leading UAA in assists with 20 ... Bailey, who hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba, produced 10-10—20 totals in 30 games, despite missing the last seven with an injury, and was UAA’s fourth-best point producer ... patrolling the blueline will be five returners who allowed 26.2 shots per game in 2010-11 – UAA’s third-best since joining the league ... leading the Seawolf pack with 10 points last year are senior Curtis Leinweber (4-6—10), from Calgary, Alberta, and junior Scott Warner (3-7—10). Senior Brad Gor-ham chipped in six points, while sophomore linemates Wes McLeod and Quinn Sproule combined for nine points ... in the crease, the Seawolves return a solid pair in sophomores Rob Gunderson and Chris Kamal ... Gunderson (Lethbridge, Alberta) and Kamal (Alpharetta, Ga.) split time last season with each backstopping UAA to multiple successes ... Gunderson wrapped up the season with a 7-13-2 overall record and a .897 save percentage that tied for No. 8 on UAA’s all-time single-season list, while Kamal added a winning record of 9-5-1, a 2.62 goals-against average and three shutouts.

UAA CAPTAINS: Leading UAA as co-captains this season will be seniors Brad Gorham and Jade Portwood and juniors Chris Crowell and Scott Warner.
