This month one of our preservation partners, Landmarks Illinois, released its annual list of mostendangered buildings and it it included several in the city of Chicago. Like Preservation Chicago, Landmarks Illinois sees the Central Manufacturing District asparticularly vulnerable (we included it this year on our Chicago 7). They also singled out theUptown Theater, which continues to be vacant and deteriorating. They also drew attention to a set of buildings that Preservation Chicago has written andadvocated for, the Orangerated buildings that make up the intersection of Halsted and WillowStreets in Lincoln Park, at one of which, the "Black Duck", pictured above, has been proposedfor demolition as part of a larger development plan. We applaud Landmarks Illinois for its stance and urge officials to find a preservation solution forthe corners.

Hyde Park Loses Harper Greystones Hyde Park has lost three Greystones on the 5100 block of S. Harper Avenue and PreservationChicago is working to see a positive outcome in the former of a rehabilitated St. Stephen'sand a Chicago Landmark District. We'd like to suggest that MAC Properties rehabilitate St. Stephen's Church, 5640 S. BlackstoneAve., built at the turn of the 20th century as a Christian Science Church with neoclassicalcolumns and a domed roof, as a way to correct some recent missteps and the loss of thesebuildings for a parking lot. "Wouldn't it be amazing if MAC could invest in a plan that would preserve these significantfeatures with a landmark designation promise?" Preservation Chicago Executive Director WardMiller told the Hyde Park Herald. We're also urging the neighborhood to begin a conversation about creating a landmark districtin the from the Kenwood landmark district at 51st Street and continuing to the southern end of

"The dialogue sometimes in historic preservation makes you feel like the developers are on oneside and the historians, architects, historic preservationists are on the other," Mr. Miller toldCrain's.
