Dear Parishioners :

DAY OF EMPOWERMENT FOR BLACK CATHOLICS– September 23, 2017

On September 23rd, 2017, Pax Christi U.S.A. along with Holy Savior Catholic Community will be hosting a seminar entitled, Day of Empowerment for Black Catholics”. The day will begin at 9AM and end at 2:45 PM. We extend this invitation to Black Catholics throughout the diocese; and we would like to invite those who wish to walk alongside us, in an effort to broaden communication, knowledge and fellowship among all members of the Body of Christ.

FROM THE PASTOR

Topics to be discussed are Catholic Social Teaching and how we can apply it to everyday life, as well as how to eliminate personal and systemic racism. We will also examine the contributions of Black Catholics to the Church in the United States.

Pax Christi International, is a Catholic peace and justice movement that seeks to model the Peace of Christ in its witness to the mandate of the nonviolence of the Cross.

STEWARDSHIP: “WHO ARE YOU FOLLOWING?”

The theme of today’s readings comes through loud and clear. Give mercy in the same way you hope to receive mercy. In our sinfulness, we all hope to receive mercy, yet we are often reluctant to share it with those who have wronged us. In order to break the habit, we need only look to Jesus Christ, who tells us to forgive our sinful brother seventy-seven times ( in other words, as many times as it takes)! The first reading tells us that “wrath and anger are hateful things” and indeed they are, yet “the sinner hugs them tight.” As Christian stewards we must remember that mercy and compassion bring about joyful hearts, and that we should follow the example of Jesus in forgiveness to one another.
