Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s gospel the Pharisees again attempt to trap Jesus in

the intricacies of the Law. Jesus’ response turns the question

from legalism to the true nature of marriage. He cites to pas-

sages from Genesis concerning human creation. The first, “God

created the human person in his image; male and female he cre-

ated them,’ establishes the union of man and woman in their

likeness to God. The second, “This one, at last is bone of my

bones and flesh of my flesh...That is why a man leaves his father

and mother and clings to his wife and two of them become one

flesh,” presents woman as the suitable partner for man and the

gift of God to him. The description of woman’s creation from

man’s flesh explains the longing and the union of mutual love

between man and woman.

The prophets portray the love of God for his people as the love

of a husband for his wife. In covenant fidelity God continues to

care for Israel. Even when she betrays him to follow other gods,

he remains faithful to her. He calls her back and renews his es-

pousal to her (cf. Hos 2:21-22).

The bond of marriage also symbolizes the love of Christ for his

Church (Eph 5:25-32). He loves her as his own body. She, on

her part, prepares for him and awaits the day when he will re-

turn to take her as a bride into the wedding banquet of the king-

dom (Rev 21:1-2).

There will be a Second collection on the weekend

of October 20 & 21 for the benefit of St. Mary’s

Rest Home in Albuquerque, NM. St. Mary’s rest home is a hidden jewel tucked in a

quiet neighborhood in downtown Albuquerque,

Built in 1954. the house was a convent for the Sis-

ters of Charity who taught at St. Mary’s School. In

1974 the Sisters moved out and in 1978 Sister

Marie Amadea took over management of the build-

ing and converted it into an assisted living facility

where care for the elderly became a ministry. To-

day we continue this care in the spirit of generosity

and love began in our past and carried in our

present.

Your gift honors the elderly in our community.

A Big Thank You

First and foremost, we thank Our Lord for Our Beloved St.

Therese. We are thankful to all of you who prayed the No-

vena in Her Honor.

Gracias!

To everyone who organized the Novena in her honor

on Saturday;

To those who came and prayed with us.

To everyone who decorated and cleaned the church for

our beautiful Mass

To the Choirs, Altar Servers, Lectors, Eucharistic Min-

ister, Ushers, Deacons and Fr. Vincent for making our

weekends Fiestas great success.

Many came to enjoy the entertainment, ate the wonderful

food, purchased nice items or enjoyed the games.

Our sincere gratitude to those who worked the various

booths of our Fiesta, to the various individuals who made

donations of various food items, these fiestas could not

have been successful without the help and support of the

parishioners who provided their hours to make it happen.

To the Various foods booths who had delicious foods

thanks for your prep time before and after. Also to the

many bands and dance groups who donated their time and

talent which delighted everyone.
